    Exporting Infopath data to word?

ALright, I have been working on a note generating form for one of the doctors here at the hospital. The data entry part is almost done, and Im starting to think of how I am going to accomplish the note part. Currently, we do not have enough security clearance to link our database up with the hospitals central database, so what we are planning on doing is printing the report to a word or text file and manually copying and pasting the note into the hospitals server.

    My problem...

Preferably what I would like to do is generate this report within Infopath, the problem is, when the text is inside a control, you cannot quickly copy the entire note.

If I cannot do that, I would like to learn how to export the needed data to a word document. However, I have no idea how to do that. I searched the board and foundhttp://www.infopathdev.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=209
which goes in the direction I want, however, I am somewhat code retarded right now, I'm more than willing to learn, and am trying to, just need some really specific guidance.

    thanks

Why can't you quickly copy the note? If the note is stored in one node, you should be able to do Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to copy then Ctrl+V to paste somewhere else. Also, if this is only one node, it should be really easy to write an XSL for this to transform it into Word, but if you're just trying to get it into the DB, why bother?

    trufooser,

What do you mean when you say the text is "inside a control"?

How are you storing that note?

Re: Exporting Infopath data to word?

alright, this form is an operative note generator used for billing processes. Pre operation, during the operation, and post op, the doctor is entering information about the patient. In the healthcare industry (at least at my hospital) every encounter with the patient is documented and put in their EMC (electronic medical chart). the billers then go through that EMC and figure out what to bill the patients insurance company.

so, when the doctor is printing a note, it is report generated from the infopath database in paragraph form. the doctor generates the report and then copys and pastes the note into the patients EMC.

below is a sample note (completely made up), ill use < > to indicate a field pulled from the infopath database.

An <length> incision was made <direction> over the <body part>. Approximatly <blood loss amount> CC's of blood was lost. <Screw Number> <screw type> screws were placed in the <body part>. <fastening type> was used to close the incision.

Thats kinda the design I am going for. The problem that Im coming across with simply copying and pasting is that I cannot select the text located within a control while i select text outside of a control.

And for putting it directly into the hospital DB, unfortunatly is not an option for security concerns and the data format (healthcare uses a format called HL7). I was also thinking that it would be easy to put into word, just like you can in access, except, i have no idea how. i am code writing retarded. im fairly confident i could pick up fast if i had a really good tutorial with a lot of examples.

Thanks, and I hope that clears things up.

Exporting to word requires mapping of the xml from infoPath into word. In InfoPath 2007 this is a lot easier, but in 2003 it's hard.

Here is the easy (but not very user friendly if your doctor is th one to do the cut and paste):

    http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2004/04/29/123459.aspx

Here is the more difficult way:

    http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.infopath/browse_frm/thread/4dd9ccf463b4daef/6c46e40803cfb1ca?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#6c46e40803cfb1ca

that information is in the InfoPath 2003 SDK. The SDK should get you started, it's just rather time consuming to setup.

This type of work is the type of work that our company (Qdabra Software) does consulting on all the time. If you would like more information on how we might be able to help you, feel free to go to our home website for more information: http://www.qdabra.com/ We have done work in the EMR/EMC field and do have some experience with solutionis for your industry.

    Good luck!
