I have setup my form with rules to model collapsible sections upon clicking a button. The problem is, when the form loads and by default all the sections start out collapsed, a massive whitespace area exists which seems to be the same size as the sum of all the uncollapsed sections (uncollapsing them fills this void). Obviously a user doesn't want to scroll past a page of whitespace just to get to the next section. The form should dynamically move things up and down based on what is shown. How can I fix this? I already tried deleting all extra whitespace in between the sections so that is not the problem.

Are your sections in a layout table? If so, set the row's height to automatic - then it will resize down.

They aren't in a layout table. They are just sections added below other sections, within a larger section. This was done because multi-level collapsing was required, so the large section can be collapsed as well as the sub-sections. Each section has a table inside it and in between sections are table rows for the headers. What I ended up doing was cut-pasting each section into a separate view (for backup), then re-adding each one back one by one, previewing each time to make sure there were no extra line breaks. I did find one or two cases where extra line breaks existed and deleted those to shrink the container. After adding all of them back and making sure each preview had no extra lines the form was back to normal. Bizarre!

The whitespace woes continue!! Now it is somehow padding whitespace before my last section, and adding more spaces everytime I delete a line from another section! There seems to be absolutely no way to fix this. What is going on here?

Here is what I would do if it were my form. I would start setting all the background colors differently - I swear, I make my forms into an Easter egg sometimes trying to track these things down. Every section a different color. Then you can see which section is causing you trouble. If there is a layout table in the section - every row a different color, so you can see which one it is. Start with the big pieces and preview, so you can narrow down the issue. In general, this type of issue is caused by table rows not set to auto for height and sections not set to auto for height.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem doesn't seem to be that I can't find where the extra whitespace is. The problem is that it doesn't show on the designer at all, only when previewed or published does the whitespace crop up. If I delete (or temporarily cut) ALL the sections, only then does the whitespace rear its ugly head and can be removed, but after adding them all back in one by one, somehow the whitespace is introduced again...I may just have to leave it in there.

Feel free to attach your template under the Options tab if you'd like me to take a look. Does the whitespace not show in the designer because you have sections that are hidden when you preview? Or are they actually moving and adding space (which I've never seen before & would love to see the template in this case).

I was able to resolve it finally. You were right in that it was related to the auto-setting of the row height. I did try that at first and it didn't seem to work, but I was checking the row height in the wrong table/section. It needed to be set in the container that all my other sections were residing in (had a hard time clicking on this section with so many things stacked on top of each other), but that did it all right.
