    Setting Fiscal Years in InfoPath

I have a 2007 IP form where I show two fields. One is labeled This Fiscal Year and the other is labeleld Next Fiscal Year. I want these fields to show the current and next fiscal years and calculate them as well when the fiscal year hits. So the field label This FY will always show the current FY, in this case 2013. Then when th FY changes it should automatically update. The field labeled Next FY should alway calculate whateve the next fiscal year is. How do I get it to calculate the fiscal years and also not automatically updates until the fiscal year changes? Thanks.

So - is your fiscal year the same as the actual year? I know some companies - their FY may start the beginning of June or some such.

I'd use default values for this - they'll update when ever the form is opened - but if the formula is right, they won't change until the year changes - for example, substring(today(), 1, 4) would always be the current year. substring(today(), 1, 4) + 1 would always be next year. Does that make sense?

    Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your response. The fiscal year I'm dealing with is different than the calendar year. It begins on 10/1 and ends on 9/30. So the formula would have to know that.Right now the fiscal year is 2013 so  up until 10/1 of this year the Current Fiscal Year field wouldd show 2013. Then on 10/1 it would need to show 2014. For the Next Fiscal Year field that needs to show 2014 up until 10/1 then change to 2015 at that time.

You'll probably want to use rules then, instead of default values. I'd put them in the form open rules. I'd only add rules for setting "this" FY - then put a rule on that field to set "next" FY. I've attached a sample. Save it locally, right click and open in design mode. Preview - you can change your sytem date to see if it does what you need. I'm using msxsl:string-compare in the expressions - you could also use translate to remove the "-" in the date and compare it like numbers.
