Infopath Repeating Table with Data Connection SP library

    Hi,

I’m using InfoPath 2010 browser based form.  Using Data connection to SP list displaying two columns on repeating table. SP list contains – one check box (yes/no) and textbox.

Currently I’m not saving this SPData Connection/repeating table Data to list or library, actually I don’t need to submit these data, all other data on form submitting to SP library

When I open New form, it’s working fine, displaying properly, when I do changes on repeating table like unselect few check boxes which all already selected from SP list, or, I select few check boxes which are not selected from SP list. And Save the form to SP library

When I open saved item from SP library, my changes  aren’t saved on repeating table on form, repeating table displaying default selection which are from SP list

I just like to get repeating table data from SP list at first instance (when I create new form) for every form.  and after that I want to change repeating table data as required. For this do I need to save data to SP Library

    Thanks inadvance!!!

Hi - well, if you are displaying data from a secondary data connection, you can't make changes to that data - that is, when the data source is re-queried, any changes you made will be overwritten. Your XML file you get when you save your form will only ever include data from the main data source.

    Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your understanding my situation and for your respose,

Just want to make sure, is there any way to bind reating table data(which getting from secondary data connection, using SP list) to data to main data soure , so it can save to SP library. Like by using custom code?

    Thanks Again!!

    Hi EMSCA,

There are two approaches to copy repeating data from a secondary data source to a main data source:

    1. Default values - have the main data source lookup the value you want from the secondary data source.
      • You'll want to use a filter with an index comparison to get the correct values (if there are more than one)
      • You will need to have blank rows or sections in your default data for the repeaters if you want to make sure they copy across.
    2. Copy using qRules - this is more scalable since it doesn't involve creating blank rows
      • Use qRules Insert to insert just the number of rows you need
      • Create rules on the rows or sections that copy over using filters (same as #1)

For non repeating data, you can use a rule with multiple set field actions or you can use qRules CopyTable or qRules Transform command to do it ala batch.

Disclaimer: we developed qRules to save people time - it has over 130 commands covering the most commonly requested code scenarios. All proceeds go to supporting this free forum.

    Thanks,

    P

    Thanks for your response!!

I would like to work on option one and  i'm not sure about setting up filter on index comparison(as per point 1) and how to connect it to default data, could you please guide me some links where i can see more steps about this process. I tried adding my XSN file but becasue of Max Size limit, it got blocked

Please provide some light on this

    Thanks!!

You just double click on the main data source field that you want to copy into and set a default value - click on Fx and then the button for adding a field. Select the field from the secondary data source and then you should have a filter button. Filter where the ID from the secondary resource file equals a value from the main data source (important that the main data source compare is on the right). You can add multiple IDs for repeaters inside repeaters. If you see InfoPath inserting an xpath with current() in it, that's probably a good sign.

We can take 10 minutes to show you the technique after our weekly webinar on Thursday of next week. In other words, 2/28, but please let us know before end of this week if you want this.

Re: Infopath Repeating Table with Data Connection SP library

     Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your help on this. I have followed your steps and added repeating field (Text Box - X)to the Main data source and for default value - click on fx and then the button for added a field from the secondary data source and then using filtered button added filter optionsI getting format like this - Textbox – X displaying item info of first row (only one row it’s displaying)Textbox – X displaying item info of first row(only row it’s displaying), and value changing when I select and unselect check box – Y, (Which also getting form same list using SP secondary data connection) , of the first row, Textbox – X not displaying other rows info even I added as repeating field in main data source.

I published Textbox – X to SP library, even its value saved as “false” to library, when I reopen the form it’s showing as “true”Textbox – X doing as same as Checkbox- Y which is not published to library. Would like to do some progress on this. Please provide some suggestions

Thanks for letting me know about Webinar info, I’d like to join it, I’m fine with this Thursday or next Thursday, Please let me know process to attend webinar

    Thanks for all your support!!!
