We made a change to a form. Now when I open up existing forms, we get the following message.

Element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/ado/dataFields}COMMENTHISTORY' is unexpected according to content model of parent element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/ado/dataFields}NEWJOB'.
Expecting: http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/ado/dataFields}BILLINGINFO.

NEWJOB, COMMENTHISTORY AND BILLINGNFO are all under one "SQL Server" DB connection. yes I had to modify the data connection because I added columns to "BillingInfo".

What did we do wrong?

The schema is expecting certain nodes to appear in a particular order.

Because you added BillingInfo, it is expected to occur before CommentHistory.

The schema nodes are likely not optional since this is coming from a database.

Therefore, the problem is NOT in your connection, but rather in your existing forms. The forms are missing the new BillingInfo in their XML. Add an XML node for this in the correct place in the existing .xml forms and you should be set to go.
