A field value doubles on form load (Browser based form)

I have several checkboxes that set a field's value (DTS_Move)

    My rule If true (Set field's value: DTS_Move = DTS_Move + 1) If false (Set field's value: DTS_Move = DTS_Move - 1)

It is supposed to give me the total of checkboxes that are checked.  It works great the first time you load it.   The problem is when I reload the page.

Say I have 3 of 3 items checked and I uncheck one of them.  Before I submit the form it shows that I have 2 of 3 checked as it should.

After I submit the form and reopen it it shows that I have 4 of 3 checked.  When it is reloaded it is totaling the amount of times I change the checkbox whether checked or unchecked.

I tested this by submitting a form with 3 of 6 boxes checked.  When I re-opened it I checked and unchecked the same box 3 times with an end result of 4 of 6 which is correct.

When I reloaded it showed 7 of 6.  Anybody??

     Hi Hollyanne,

You wouldn't happen to have any rules under Form Load would you?

There aren't any rules that would affect that field.  Neither do I have any defaults set that would affect it.  But it is definitely happening on form load.  It functions correctly before you submit it.  Thank you

Hmm, that is strange. I made a simple form that contains the rules you describe above and I am unable to duplicate the doubling you observed.  My other guess is that there may be data connections that are loading when the form opens that interfere with the checkboxes.

The more I look at it the more I am convinced that I have a programming problem somewhere.  I too am able to have it work correctly on another form.  I may rewrite the whole stupid thing.

Why not just use a default value that adds the counts of the checkboxes where the value is equal to true (or whatever the checked value is)? Then you don't have to have so many rules....I've attached a sample. Save it locally, right click and select design to open in design mode & then you can preview from there to try it out.

Thank you so much.  It worked!  Much easier.
