InfoPath Dev

I created this InfoPath form that is linked to SharePoint. The form works great and is usually succesful but once in awhile, if there are too many characters/words on this one text box, It gives me an error message (with no details??). I can put as many words/characters in every other text box, its just this one and I cant seem to find anything that is different in infopath designer. Is there a way to figure out more about the error message? Does anybody know anything about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'd consider myself a beginner in infopath/sharepoint forms, so if/when you answer please explain in 'novice' terms. :) Thank you, Jessica

If it's a SharePoint List form, I would check the SharePoint list itself, to see the data types for the columns. If could be that there's a column limited to 255 characters (for example). I'm attaching a screenshot.

I just spent the morning trying to find the 'data type' but I believe my form template is published to a 'SharePoint Form Library' and therefore, I dont have that option. Also, I tried to recreate the document to a SharePoint List but because our SharePoint server is 2003, it will not allow me to publish to a SharePoint List. I'm hoping there is another way around this? Thank you for your help! :)

Attached is the error message I keep getting. It is only in certain fields, that if too much text is entered, this message pops up.

I'm getting this same error message. I haven't been able to figure out what is causing the error. What led you to believe it is due to too many characters in a certain text box? I've been trying to figure out how to backtrack to the item/field in the form that is causing the error, but of course there are no details in the error message.

 What's odd is I don't get any error when testing the form using 'preview' in the client. I only get this error once I've published the form to SharePoint & test from there.The form is browser-compatible with no errors when I run the design checker.

 Any help is appreciated!!

So - jmsteinberg, you mention in one post that you are using ShP 2003, but that must not be the case, since you are using a browser form - weren't those introduced in SharePoint 2007? Or am I remembering wrong?

I'd go check the SharePoint logs when the error occurs to see if I can get more information - if you don't have access to the server, bug your server admin & tell her (or him) what time the issue occurred so they have a chance of finding it....

I was able to resolve the issue late yesterday afternoon and tested last night & this morning... things have been functioning as they should so far. In my case, it turned out that our SharePoint Administration team had turned off emailing functionality behind the scenes in the testing environment and that was triggering this error. I just published in a new document library that no end users would have access to and tested it right in the production SharePoint site. It worked beautifully!

 

Now that I've gotten that fixed, I'm having a new issue where instead of showing the user ID of the person who submitted the form it displays the ID of whoever is viewing the form. I'm searching the blogs for a fix for that issue now...
