InfoPath Dev

I have a series of checkboxes that I want to be checked by default so I'm setting the value like below.  It works fine when I preview the form in InfoPath, but when I publish the form to Sharepoint the default state for the checkboxes are all unchecked. 

I'm used to 1 = true, 0 = false, but still, I tried a sample form set up like this and it worked as anticipated in the browser (InfoPath & SharePoint 2010). If I were troubleshooting this, I would probably put a text box on the form bound to the field to see what the actual value is. I'd check the default value for the field. I might try changing cleared to 0 & checked to 1. What version of IP / ShP?

Thanks for the help.  Your tip of putting a textbox on the form and seeing the value submitted was very good. I changed the true/false 1/0 values around and it works in SP and IP 2010.
