Using one form to submit with preceding-sibling and afterwards retrieve that submitted data from a sharepointlist

    Hi,

I'm searching a few weeks on this. I'm trying to submit my form using a repeating table with preceding-sibling towards a sharepointlist. In the form I use 4 fields with preceding-sibling. Once submitted, I want to retrieve data with the same 4 fields I previous used for preceding-sibling (on the same form). But the result is that the filtered data fields doesn't appear in my repeating table. Is there a way to avoid this without coding? Or is there another way for copying text into the next row in a repeating table? So, I don't need to use the preceding-sibling function. I'm not sure I understand what you want to accomplish - could you attach a sample XSN please?

    • Hi,
    • I found some related articles. They encounter the same problem. They suggest coding to replace the preceding-sibling.
    • But it is the same principle I want to achieve.
    • In attachment you will find the file. (it's written in dutch) So, I think you will be better off with the urls in this answer. Even they didn't find a solution without coding.

    • I want to explain my form because it's written in dutch. But for the moment I don't find the possibility to paste my printscreens.
    • But it is the same principle as in the articles. I add a new form based on 4 parameters(eerste onderzoek). Once choosen the 4 parameters I can add new items. These items will have the same text from the previous item. After I submit and I want to retrieve the information based on the same parameters (periodiek onderzoek). I can filter on the same parameters but the textfields were I used the preceding-sibling are not filled in.

Is there another possibility to copy text fields in a repeating table without using preceding-sibling? (So in that way the filtered fields from the main source are filled in)

I don't have any familiarity with these list-based forms, but my guess is that what's happening is the default value formulas are getting re-processed when the data is reloaded and the values are getting overwritten.  Is that a possibility?

An alternative approach might be to place a rule on the my:SharePointListItem_RW group to set the row's values using preceding-sibling::..., and give the rules a condition to only run if the target fields are blank.

You can also try modifying the repeating group's default values:

    1. Right-click on the repeating section and select Repeating Section Properties.
    2. Click Modify under the data tab.
    3. Click Edit default values.
    4. Select the option "Only when the user inserts this section".

This way, the default values will only apply when the user inserts row/s.

Hi Mel and Jimmy, Thank you for your advices. These gave me new insights. It is not already doing what I wish but with your advices I have a new view on the possibilities. So I will adapt my form in that way that the queries (retrieving data from the sharepointlist) always work. (filter data like in excelsheet). And If I want to add a new item on that same maindatasource, the preceding-sibling can be applied. I think I will not only need the option "only when the user inserts this section" but also like Jimmy suggested put some more rules.

At this moment when I only activate the "option" on the "repeating section" for entering "new items". The form keeps the filter settings of the first attempt to retrieve data and vice versa. With other words when you swich between views like - new item (with preceding-sibling) and - retrieve data, the visualized data gets a little bit mixed up.

So, I will work further on this and will let you know the outcome.

    Regards,

    Otto
