    Dynamic Number of Comment Fields

Hello!  I have a SharePoint list with various test questions and I use a repeating section with a filter to pull in the relevant questions. I have two buttons nested into the repeating section to flag each test question as either “passed” or “failed”. My problem… I need to add a new comment field for each question flagged as failed. Is there a way to do this?  I tried using a repeatable table, but I would need the table to automatically add new rows for each failed test question with the question title. (I cannot rely on the user to do this manually.)

I am using SharePoint and InfoPath 2007.

I cannot install anything like VSTA on this computer and I have no ability to set up custom workflows in SharePoint.

Well, the first question is: you're retrieving data (questions from a SharePoint List) . This data is going into a new, blank, InfoPath form (with an unlocked schema)?

If yes, then this data is in a secondary data source.

I assume that the question answers would then be stored in the main data source. Will that data be submitted to another list? To a form library?

If you can clarify the scenario, it will help to see what options are available. Thanks!

There isn't a way to automatically add rows to repeating groups using InfoPath's built-in features.  There are two things you can do:

    • Use the Default Values dialog box to pre-populate the comments group with as many rows as there could possibly be questions (if there is such an upper limit)
    • Use qRules to add the ability to add rows dynamically using the Insert command.

Given that you can't install VSTA, I'm guessing that installing qRules would also be out.  One thing to point out is that you could install qRules on a separate machine, inject it into your form there, and then do the actual form development on your primary machine.
