Newbie: Needing to update a textbox field, dependant on which drop-down list option is selected.

     Hi,

Just getting into Infopath2010 and I've hit the hurdle.

I have a form were a user enters can enter a 8 digit value into a text box.  Now depending on a selected drop-down option it will add a number sequence to the beginning of the value in the text box.

    Field: MyNumber (Text-box)

    Field: OSType (Drop-down List)

Values: Windows 7 or Mac OS X

The user will enter their number into the text-box 'MyNumber" and then select an option from the drop-down list.  Base on their selection is till add a value to the beginning of the number they entered i.e. if they enter the number 123 and select Windows 7 the text-box will update to WIN123 and if they select Mac OS X it will read MAC123.

I can do this by using concat as a validation, however if I switch between the drop-down list options if will continue to added values to the text box i.e. User enters 123, selects Windows 7 and gets WIN123.  If they then select Mac OS X, they get MACWIN123.  I am trying to get the field to refresh MAC123.

Then tried using another validation string-after("WIN",MyNumber), however couldn't get it to work.

     Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's because your rules are running into a loop. Why not use a separate (third) field where you store the concatenated (calculated) value? I think that should entirely avoid the issue.

(Thanks for attaching the form, by the way. Allows to quickly diagnose and provide advice.)
