Error installing qRules on Win7 Pro

    Hello,

I've been issued a new computer with Win 7 Pro and am trying to install qRules. The install process works out fine, but when I run the "install.js" I get a message that says:

An error occurred while trying to register the form:

The following form template cannot be registered: C:\Program Files (x86)\Qdabra Software\Qdabra Rules Library\Forms\qRulesForm.xsn

    Access is denied.

When I open the mapping tool from Windows explorer, the system tells me that the file is in use and can only be opened as a read-only copy, or that I don't have sufficient privileges to open the form.

What am I missing? How do I install qRules on a Win7 system?

     Or am I missing something?

Please let me know how to install my qRules license on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

     cheers, Ingeborg

Re: Error installing qRules on Win7 Pro

    I tried the following:

     - opened a command prompt in Win 7 as administrator

    - navigated to the qRules forms folder

    - started the install.js -- the templates installed successfully, apparently

Now, when trying to open the mapping tool, I get an error message that says the the .NET Framework 3.5 is not installed or installed incorrectly. Huh? That framework comes with Win7. How can it not be installed correctly?

It also says that "A floating attribute may not be passed as the context node for an XSLT transform or an XPath query."

I can't believe that this is a Windows 7 problem. I'm sure there must be hundreds or (hopefully) even thousands of qRules users with Win7 and I'm just missing something. Any idea what that could be?

This is crucial. This is urgent. My company is in the process of switching from XP to Win 7 as the platform for all users. If I cannot use qRules on Win7, I'm stuffed.

    Ideas really, really welcome.

    cheers, Ingeborg

    Hi,

qRules has been thoroughly tested with Windows 7 and is compatible.

Please check whether all of the InfoPath features have been installed. You can do this via an Office repair option. Expand the “Microsoft Office InfoPath” and make sure that the “.NET Programmability Support” node has been checked.

This should resolve the issue. Let us know the outcome. Thank you.

Re: Error installing qRules on Win7 Pro

    Hi Ernesto,

thanks for your quick reaction. I thought that it had to be something on my setup, because I've seen Patrick using qRules in Win7 during the Master Class.

OK, I've followed your suggestion. I think in my case the culprit might be that I have Office 2010 and Office 2013 installed side by side.

I checked the installed features and the ".NET Programmability Support" is enabled.

I did a repair install of Office 2010, but still no bacon.

Then I did a repair install of Office 2013. Now, from the Start Menu > Qdabra > etc ... the SharePoint mapping tool opens in IP 2013. No error messages. Seems to work.

When I manually open Filler 2010, navigate to the form and open it, I get the message that it cannot be opened because the .NET framework 3.5 is not installed. Maybe there's a conflict between .NET 4 and 3.5? Or 2010 and 2013?

When I start Designer 2010 an open the form, I get a message that the form is in use and whether I want to open a read-only copy. How can the form be in use if it's not opened in another process?

The same goes for the sample qRules form, by the way.

What do you think: can I run the mapping tool with IP 2013 to create a valid mapping.xml? If so, I'll take that as a workaround. If I can use qRules in the 2013 interface with no drawbacks on functionality, that'll be fine.

I'll play around some more and will report findings as I go.

     cheers, Ingeborg

Re: Error installing qRules on Win7 Pro

I believe the problem is that full trust forms need to be installed. When a computer has two versions of InfoPath, it seems like this issue happens. We've seen it with computer that have both IP2007 and IP2010 installed, and your results seem to suggest the same problem when IP2010 and IP2013 are both installed on the same machine.

I believe the solution is to use only one of the versions of InfoPath; uninstall the one you don't plan on using and the problem should be resolved.

If you're just interested in learning IP2013 or running it as a trial, then install it on another machine so that you can continue using IP2010 normally, until you're ready to switch over permanently.

    Hope this helps.
