Happy Day Everyone!

I am trying to find a solution to clear a test field once I hit the tab button. Let me explain a bit more in detail. I have created a "Work Log" text field that the user will input there daily activities, etc. When they hit the "tab" button the data concats with date, time, status, etc into a read only field called "Log View".

What I am trying to do it to clear the field "work Log" once they hit tab.

I am new to the coding aspect so any detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe you need code to achieve this. I'm attaching a sample form that you can download, open in design mode (to look at the rules) and preview. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

Thank you!  My only problem is that it overwrites the last value that is logged....am I doing something incorrectly?  I added the rules as you stated.

Actually, it looks like in that sample, you'll only ever have the last entry. I modified this a just a smidge. :-)

Thank you for your assistance.  I have the concat formula working beautifully, but still can not get the initial field to clear once the data is moved to the "Work Log" text field. 

What are your current rules?

concat(., " by ", userName())

concat(@WorkLogCache, @crlf, now(), ";", ., ";", userName(), ";", "Status", ";", RequestStatus)

Your screenshots aren't displaying for me - you can attach them under the Options tab if you like. I think what you may be missing is a rule to clear the original field.... in my sample, my rules set the field to blank after setting the log (and my field to set the log only runs if the field is not blank to begin with).

I attached of the screen shot WorkLog1 which is what I am actualyl trying to accomplish.  If I use the sample you gave me (about the same I have) it does nto clear the filed..... :-(

In the sample attached to my post, if I preview it and type in the work log field and tab out, the text gets added to the log field and the work log field is cleared - is the sample form not working that way for you?

No it is not :-( (I am sad).  It still keeps the data.  Here is a screen shot of your form in use on my system.

Oh how weird. And this is in InfoPath Filler? Screenshot of the rules on the Work Log field?

Yea I am working from InfoPath Designer 2007.  and yes the work log field......any other ideas?

Oh, how annoying, I just tried this on my IP 2007 VM, and had the same results. Try this one - I added another field to use to reset the Work Log field.
