Multiple IP fields mapped to one SP list field

I have a repeating section that includes two fields (one drop-down text-string and another decimal for currency). I need them to all write to to one sharepoint list field for that one item. I've attached a picture of the mapping. I've received this error after submitting once then trying to add another entry: Failed to submit to SharePoint. Full error node text: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'Amount' Key being added: 'Amount': Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004304D

I am open to suggestions on different ways to do this. thanks!

What you show on a screenshot is really controls - visual containers for rendering underlying data fields.
You can have multiple controls for the same data field.

And in this controls to filter what they show.

So, you will have one data field for one sharepoint  list field appearing in different controls with different content.

Hi, Jenny - I'm confused by this. Are you wanting to create a new list item for each of these sets of fields?

The form is a daily activity form. The user chooses an event type, and depending on what entry type they choose, that section appears. Each repeating section is an entry in the sp list. The Event Type associated with entries have different drop down choices but all need to be written to the SP Event Type field. Same with the Amount, but after thinking about it, I can take it out of the inner section and make it an optional field for what ever event type is chosen. I hope I am explaining it well enough :)

I think your mapping is going to need to be slightly more complex. Can you attach a copy of the mapping.XML and I can show you what I think needs to change?

So, I modified this a little - I'll add more detail in a second post so I can attach a screenshot.

Okay, what I did was make the assumption that only one of the fields mapped to the amount column would be filled out (same with type) and manually added XPath filters to only use the field if it was not blank - give this a try and see if we get any closer.

Neither Amount or Event Type are still populating. This form is an ongoing shift log where entries are added, and at times, the user would submit it. I need to be able to submit one, then maybe multiple entries the next time, etc. Since I have the entry ID set on submit, I thought it would update the previous records (even if there weren't any changes), and add the additional ones. Instead, I'm getting this message:

Failed to submit to SharePoint. URL = 'http://www..portalname.local/_vti_bin/lists.asmx'. Full error node text: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'Amount' Key being added: 'Amount': Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004304D

I think you are getting that error because you have multiple fields mapped to the same column. I was hoping that setting the mapping to not submit Amount / Type unless they had a value would work around that, but apparently not. I'll try this out later today or sometime tomorrow with a tool I use for testing and see if I can come up with a work around. You could also consider normalizing your form schema, so you don't have to map a number of fields to the same column....

One thought I had was to create mapping (and submit data connections) for eacy type of Entry then apply a filters. The one submit button would actually submit new and updates to the list. What do you think?

That may be worth a try - you could try it with just two types of Entry - if it works for you, then you could proceed with the others.

Re: Multiple IP fields mapped to one SP list field

Ok, I learn something new everyday. I didn't know that I can drop the Event Type into all the sections it needs to, and be able to change the drop down values. I re-mapped the one Event Type to the Type in SP and it is working perfectly. It isn't giving me an error when I add new entries or update. It still isn't liking the Amount field; is it because I have both fields set to currency?

The amount field in your list is currency? Is it just a decimal in your form?

It is a decimal, and I just got it to work after I changed it from auto to 2 decimal places. Oh the little things. Thank you so much for your help again Hilary, I really appreciate it!!
