    i can automatically get a users information, but how do i get their head of department?

    in my form i can get all of the current persons details but i need a field to get their head of department. i know how to get their manager, but this form must be approved by their HoD. is there a way i can do this?

    I don't think AD has a specific field in which you can know who the head of department is.  If there is, you also need to make sure that it is filled out correctly in AD.  What I like to recommend is simply creating a SharePoint list that contains all of the departments and their contacts which in your case is the head of department.  You can just use this list as your reference in your logic.
