Existing Infopath Forms Open as New Forms in Designer

I have about a dozen InfoPath forms that have been published and are working correctly. I have a weird problem with about half of the forms. Instead of opening under their own name in designer, they open as new forms with the generic name "Form 1." I am opening the local copy of the forms on a mapped network drive. Then when I try to save the form, it tries to save it as a new form. If I choose the old form name, it says I am overwriting an existing file and may lose data. Why is this happening?

One thing that MAY be happening, though I am not sure yet. It seems there is a correlation between when this happens and when a person opens the file who did not save it last. In other words, if I work on a file, and save it, it works fine, but if someone else opens it, it does not. This, again, has yet to be confirmed.

This is partly correct. It also has to do with publishing. If the form is saved, published, then the XSN gets copied to another location and opened in design mode, it will show Form1 in the title bar. That's no problem. You can safely overwrite the previously existing XSN and retain the same filename.

Sorry, I feel stupid reading your discussion

Those that are published are .xsn form templates and those that are being opened and saved are .xml data forms (created on the basis of a template, aren't they?
You seem to refer to both interchangeable....
Are you opening and saving  in designer or filler? XSN form template or XML data form?
