    login failed for user NT authority/Network Services

    <p>

    I am doing the getting started tutorial after installing DBXL client.

    While testing the DB connection,the connection string is as below

    Data Source=(LOCAL)\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=DBXLTutorial;Integrated Security=True

     it gives error as below

    Can not connect to database DBXLTutorial.Login failed. login failed for user NT authority/Network Services.

    I am not sure what went wrong here, because I followed the same steps in the tutorial as given till this step.

    Please help me to resolve this issue.

    thanks.

    </p>

    Data Source=(LOCAL)\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=DBXLTutorial;Integrated Security=True

    Hi-

    Can you check whether the NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE account has permissions on the DBXL Tutorial database? It will require reader and writer permissions.

    Thank you!

    i CHECKED permissions by right click on DataBase -> properties -> view server permissions -> then i could see NT Athourity/Service has connect to sql GRANT option as checked by sa. I also checked that option by my username. IS there something else needs to be done here?

    Hi-

    For the SQL database where you are mapping data to, you will need to grant NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE db_writer and db_reader.

    I could connect successfuly but not by adding User NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE  for the  database and granting it db_writer and db_reader permissions.

    I used below connection string and it could connect to my DBXLTutorial database.

    Data Source=(LOCAL);Initial Catalog=QdabraUtility;Integrated Security=True.

    I am using SQL Express version of MS SQL server 2008. It should work with below string

    Data Source=(LOCAL)\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=DBXLTutorial;Integrated Security=True

    Logically thinking I did not understand this.. can you please help me understand this.

    thanks.

    Re: login failed for user NT authority/Network Services

    Where is DBXL installed? On the (LOCAL) instance of SQL or on the (LOCAL)\SQLEXPRESS instance?

    When DBXL is installed, it automatically adds permissions for the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE for the database and grants it db_writer and db_reader permissions. So for example, if DBXL is installed on (LOCAL), then the connection string Data Source=(LOCAL);Initial Catalog=QdabraUtility;Integrated Security=True works because the DBXL installer added the permissions.

    If you would like to connect to Data Source=(LOCAL)\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=DBXLTutorial;Integrated Security=True, I would suggest adding NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE for (LOCAL\SQLEXPRESS) instance and the DBXLTutorial database and granting it db_writer and db_reader permissions.

    If DBXL was installed on (LOCAL), the DBXL installer has not added any permissions to help you connect to (LOCAL)\SQLEXPRESS.

    Hope this helps!
