Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

I do have a hiccup...... After i click the set page URL and then when i click the Execute Check Out Query button, it has a problem processing the query..... i get a error.....

An error occurred while trying to connect to a Web service.
An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.

    Log ID:5566

    Correlation ID:eaec1df3-2ace-408a-b943-14310e876551

Do you think by adding in the / that it now causes an error OR do i need to recreate the Data Connection files?

Have you tested the URL? Have you copied the page URL from the text box on the form and pasted it into your browser's address bar to verify the file exists? You aren't trying to check out prior to submitting the XML for the first time, are you?

wanted to followup on this one..... as i am working on the check-in process now....... 1.) in the instructions, it mentions using the same formula from the check-out button. I did - concat(substring-before(substring-after(/processing-instruction()[local-name(.) = "mso-infoPathSolution"], 'href="'), 'Forms/template.xsn"'), concat(EventNames, "-", DateSubmitted), ".xml"). * i added the / in front of the processing-instruction for the CheckIn_File when setting the pageURL also as you described earlier and as i said, it disappeared after i verified the formula. 2.) i then PUBLISHED the form. 3.) I made a submission to the database using the form. then went to the sharepoint library and selected the form and opened it. 4.) I clicked the Check Out button but then i eventually received the same error as earlier: The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: CheckInFile_TemplatePart1 InfoPath cannot run the specified query. The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server: Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown. Parameter pageUrl is missing or invalid.0x82000001 now as we discovered, we needed to add the "/" in the form and publish it. I added the slash to the formula, used the field picker to add the fields etc,..... everything but this error popped up. Now notice, this is now on the CheckInFile_Template1 now. I followed the instructions as stated and had all the rules as listed in the pdf. And again, i published this form. So I am at a lost what may have happened. I am attaching so you can see where i am coming from.....

Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

    Hi -

I think when you say the preceding "/" disappears you may be talking about the difference in the formula editor window between InfoPath's "friendly" display and the full XPath - in the form you attached, if I select the Edit XPath checkbox, I can see that the "/" is still there.

So - your check out button, you are setting the page url query parameter in the "Check Out" data connection. But then you query the "Check In" data connection. Then you have a button you've labeled with "Check In", but it doesn't set the query parameters in the "Check In" data connection - it just executes it. Looks like instead of using the template part, you've tried to just repurpose the buttons I'd added to your form for testing?

Oh, wait, looks like you have different actions on these buttons in different views? So, in the Switchboard view, your button labelled "Execute Query (Check In)" sets the page url query parameter for the "Check In" data connection, but doesn't execute the data connection? And your other button sets the correct page url query parameter, but executes the wrong data connection.

To check out - you need to set the query parameters in the Check Out data connection and execute the Check Out query.

To check in - you need to set the query parameters in the Check In data connection and exectue the Check In query.

Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

hi..... since this template had to be created in 2010, can this custom Check In/Check Out template custom control be used in a 2007 form?  Reason i am asking is i did try to put it into a 2007 form (opened in 2010) and i got a web service query error.   this is for an entirely different form.   Do i need to recreate Data Connections for the new form library?  i was under the impression that the data connections made and saved initially, were universal......

also, just curious...... why was the "/" needed in the formula to make this work? chris

Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

You asked about the XTP and compatibility before here: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/20750.aspx

InfoPath 2007 handles SharePoint list connection differently than IP 2010. I would assume you'd need to create another version for IP 2007.

Please also see this blog post - I mention specifically that I'm relying on features not available for IP 2007 forms - the ability to return info from a form library for the open form only.

That's not to say that it isn't possible to do this in InfoPath 2007 - you just need to have a way to figure out the full page URL of your submitted XML.

We needed the "/" in the formula to select the correct information from the XML. The XPath to the processing-instructions was incorrect, thus no value was being returned for the href, which was being used to create the page URL.

Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

i implemented this check - in/ check out process in another form..... the issue i see is this error:

An error occurred querying a data source.

Click OK to resume filling out the form.

You may want to check your form data for errors.

Hide error details An error occurred while trying to connect to a Web service. An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.

    Log ID:5566 Correlation ID:c5a4da9e-6fe4-4fb5-82ff-e1eefcf21d42

looked over the Check In button logic - concat(substring-before(substring-after(/processing-instruction()[local-name(.) = "mso-infoPathSolution"], 'href="'), 'Forms/template.xsn"'), concat("Near Miss -", now()), ".xml") i THINK i see the issue.... you will notice that the concat("Near Miss -", now()), ".xml") part...... I did not use a field name for how the form is submitted. I simply concatenated text with the now(). the instructions state to pick a field. What about when there is no field used except now()? If that is the actual problem.... Chris

Re: Check -In / Check Out UDC error

I think you are right about your issue - every time your formula executes, it will get the current value for "now()". That means the name will change all the time. I'd add a field to the form for the form name and, when the form is first opened, have a loading rule to set it to a concatenation of Near Miss and now. Only set the field's value if the field is blank - so that way it gets set only the first time the form is opened (i.e., when the form is new).
