Submit email and post in SharePoint list

I am trying to get a form to send an email and post into a SharePoint list when the user saves (submits) the form. I can only get one to work at a time but not both. When the form is open I don't have a submit button, even though I have selected the option to display the submit button. I do have a save and close button. I set-up the submit options to "perform custom action using rules". I add the two actions, one to submit the form to the SharePoint list and a second action to send the email. When I save a form the email is sent. If I remove the email action, the form is saved to the SharePoint list. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Let's keep Save and Submit separate, since these are two separate actions.

You're right in that you need a button in your canvas that uses rules, and those rules would be the two submit rules (one for email and one for the Form Library).

You shouldn't be using the ribbon at all in this scenario.

I removed the ribbon from the form and added a button that is titled "Submit". I added a rule to the button with three actions, one to send an email, one to save the form to the SharePoint list and one to close the form. Clicking the submit button sends the email, and closes the form but does not save the form in the list. If I remove the action that sends the email, the form saves in the SharePoint list. I just checked to make sure the publish button is sending the form to the correct SP list. Clicking on the URL under the publish button opens the correct SP list

Is the form saving or submitting? Is it a List of a Form Library?

The form saves in Infopath. I believe this is a list of a form library. How can I verify that? My form settings are available in SharePoint. In an attempt to resolve this I changed the URL that the publish function points to. I removed the email option and now the form will not save in the SharePoint. Now I can't change the publishing URL back to the original. So I am going backwards instead of forward. LOL I am thinking this has something to do with he publish URL and where the form is saving in SharePoint. I just can't pin point it.

Can you attach your form via the Options tab on your next reply?

    Thanks.

I have deleted the form and the list from SharePoint and created brand new ones. I have not had one issue so far. This is a pretty simple form. Took about 30 mins to put together.

Take a look and tell me what you think I could do different.

    Thanks for including the form.

So what you've attached is a SharePoint list form. Notice that the schema is locked (locked to the SharePoint list). Its "Main Data Connection" would save the individual items back into the SharePoint list.

It's a bit confusing, though, because the form also has two Form Library submit data connections.

I don't see those two Form Library submit data connections in use in the form, and I don't see the Email data connection in use either.

I guess my question is: what's the scenario and what is the goal? I've seen list forms and email forms and library forms, but seeing all three in one form might be a first for me.

I think I understand what you are saying, but not sure. It sounds like I have done a few things that are redundant. When I created the form, I choose to use the SharePoint List template. That is where I created the “Main Data Connection” to the SharePoint list.

If I am understanding correctly, you are saying when I create a new IP form using the SP list template that means all data entered into the form will be saved to the SP list automatically. There is no need to create another submit option to save the data to the list. Correct? What I did was created a button and on the properties of that button I selected “submit” as the action. When a user clicks the button, it will submit the form using the “Main Data Connection”. Correct? I think where I made my mistake was I added another action to the button that submits the form to the SP list and an action that sends an email when the button is clicked. All I need is the email action on the button. Correct? I need to remove the action I created on the button to submit the data to the SP list when the button is clicked.

I just noticed that issue I was having last week with rules disappearing, is happening again. The form I sent you has a button on it labeled "submit". Yesturday, I had a rule on that button that said, on submit send this data to the SP list and send an email. I clicked on the button and selected manage rulese. There are no rules. How is that happening? Did I create an invalid rule that InfoPath just removes because it is a bad format?

I checked the rule inspector and it shows the rule on the submit button. I have to be doing something wrong here. Maybe I am not looking in the right palce to modify this rule.

The Rule Inspector on the form attached above doesn't have any rules configured.

I'm sorry, I'm very confused about the scenario. I'll let others reply further.
