InfoPath Dev

I have a text field with a default value.  The user can manually override this default value.  The user saves the form.  When the saved form is opened, the default value of the text field is overriding the text the user had manually keyed into the field.  How can I prevent this from happening?  Is there a way to preserve a value manually entered in a text field in a saved form that does not equal the default value set for a field?
