Rules that will generate a message but not validation

Hello, I'm trying to create a rule that will pop up a warning message but not necessarily impede the user from submitting a form. I have a list of 12 items of which users will only need to rank the top 3. It's pretty much an optional section, but I wanted to put in some rules to warn them if, say, they only ranked 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. The plan was to sum up the fields and if it was less than 6 (1+2+3) then warn the user, you haven't ranked your top 3. BUT, I still want the user to be able to continue and submit the form. Anyway to do this using just the rules? Thanks!

"You can create a rule that uses a Show a message action to automatically display a dialog box after a certain condition is met. However, this action is not supported in Web browser form templates. The message only appears when users fill out the form in InfoPath Filler". See Features compatibility matrix  in "InfoPath 2010 features unavailable in Web browser forms"

    So, the questions:

Are you using client filler form?
Do you mind to implement the tip:

    • "TIP:  To achieve a similar effect in Web browser forms, consider using conditional formatting to show and hide a section that contains the text that you want the user to see"

     instead?

Just want to add that is the same in code behind. I knew about this restriction in code behind and after that found that is the same in codeless approach (with rules).

For me, it was interesting to confirm a guess that rules and code-behind restrictions are correlated
