I have an email sent via workflow that contains a link to a given xml doc (browser enabled) in a forms library.

http://xxxxx/sites/ProjectLaunch/Project%20Applications/Test%20for%20xxx%20_%20xxx.xml

When I click on this link the browser opens and shows me the form at this url

http://xxxxx/sites/ProjectLaunch/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XmlLocation=/sites/projectlaunch/project%20applications/test%20for%20xxx%20_%20xxx.xml

This is good!

When others click the link it tries to open in infopath - why would this be?

Designed in Infopath 2010, hosted on SP Server 2010

 Have you changed Opening Documents in the Browser (in Advanced Settings < Library Settings < Library tab on ribbon, having navigated to library in browser, IE)  from default Use the server default (Open in the client application)  to Open in the browser ?

Probably there are differences in in how you and others are configured  and/or accessing sharepoint library

The setting is set to "Use the server default (Open in the browser)"

This is what it does for me, but not for my colleague sitting 10 yards away!

Meant to add, we are both trying to open the same xml file from an identical email link sent to us both.

What configuration could be different for me and others? A windows setting?

In IE such link always opened for me in Infopath Filler (without redirection of original, your first link), while Mozilla Firefox the same link opens in browser (through IPFS FormsServer.aspx, your last link)

It is strange, I do not see such an option

The link we are clicking is in an email not a web page - the only option to the users is their default browser IE (intranet environment)

My option say "Use the server default (Open in the browser) " I imagine this text will be different depending on what the default is (which may explain why your text is different)
