New Data Sources and existing forms

    Hi Everyone

I have an existing form library with may items in it.

I have updated the template and added some new data sources and rules, and published it to the same form library.

The problem I have now is that all of the existing forms (created before the publish) have all of the new data sources as blank, and you cannot edit them.

Even though I can see them, I cannot change a data source with either a rule or by directly interacting with it.

Is there any way that I can get all of the existing items in the library to be able to use the new data sources and rules?

    Thanks in advance.

In File > Form Options, how are the versioning settings configured?

Update Template = Automatically update the template (Recommended)
Update Existing forms = Do Nothing (existing forms might not work properly)

I have tried playing with these settings (including automatically upgrade existing forms), but no combination seems to do the trick.

    Thanks in advance.

I have just tried but failed to reproduce your problem having in Form Options > Versioning the default options:

    • Update template: Automatically update the template (recommended)
    • Update existing forms: Automatically upgrade existing forms
I would have tried, one step after another

Sorry everyone I should have also mentioned that is is a browser based template, used with InfoPath2010 and Sharepoint 2010.

Knowing this regardless of if I open the new template either in the browser or in infoPath (from an existing item) I still cannot edit the new data sources that I have added.

Also I need to keep the setting: Update Existing forms = Do Nothing (existing forms might not work properly), because if I use this it will remove the current active digital signatures.  Even if I have set this setting as Automatically upgrade existing formsI was still unable to edit the newly added data sources.

Not sure if this matters much.

Using the link above I have been able to view the raw XML data and discover that the processing instructions (PI’s) are different.

The Built in 'Relink' feature in sharepoint 2010 did not seem to fix the problem.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

I have discovered that the problem lies with items that contain digital signatures.

The forms that have been digitally signed will not use any of the new data sources, but old items that are not digitally signed will work fine.
