Why is it so difficult to simply resize a picture button?

I am having the hardest time just resizing a simple picture button I created in powerpoint. Whenever I try to enter the height and width, the width always resets to 100% and the dragging controls are crazy and go all inverse and wierd on me. When I can finally get it somewhere near where I want it be by very slowly dragging it, when I click on the actual button in the preview mode the hyperlink outline (dotted line) for the button isn't even lined up and it's about 10px larger than my actual button in height.

     Anyone else experienced this?

I am really good at CSS so would it just be easier to apply CSS to the form? Do picture buttons get rendered as input[type="submit"] in infopath or are they just hyperlinks? I am using this with Sharepoint web forms.

You should be using "auto" for one of the dimensions.
