    Creating a reset button

    Good Morning,

I have a form with over 300 fields and I am trying to create a way to either

    A. Reset the form to a "New State" where certain information and repeating tables remain in tact, while others are cleared and repeating sections are set to default of 1 instance.

    B. Create a button that creates a new instance of the form and brings over the information that is needed.

Background: As far as I understand in order to program in VB or C# you have to install the coder software and any computer that uses a form with code must have it installed on it as well. If this is true then I cannot use the coder install. I do not mind learning how to program this if there is a way to do it without the installer. If I can get the job done with basic rules, which I don't see how at this point, even better. I'm using office 2010 this form will be used by over 100 people.

Thanks for any help and time given to this!

    Hi Numkin,

We demonstrated an example of a form that blanks all fields about a month ago. I'm attaching it to this thread. This won't reset your repeaters. For that you need our qRules plugin and the Remove command.

    Cheers,

    Re: Creating a reset button

Thanks so much for the post. Doesn't solve my problem, but gives me an easier way to handle the issue, or at the very least shows me what I need to google. My question on your attachment, how do you type in the XPath as a value in the field box in the rule. The only thing i've been able to do is select a single field at a time. Wasn't aware you could do xPath in it.

     THanks again!

You can't actually type there - but here's a blog post that tells you how to do this by manually modifying the source files.

Thanks to everyone that helped! I was able to use this information to create a button that works in about half a second verses 30 seconds! Thanks again!

     Hi Patrick,

How did you configure the button? I downloaded the form and reviewed the button rules and properties but am unable to figure it out. Your help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jarret

Please note i am using infopath2007

    Hello,

The rule cannot be entered via the user interface. You need to extract the source files and edit the manifest.

This is explained in detail in this video of a webinar held by Patrick Halstead on May 24.

    Re: Creating a reset button

     Hi,

The solution works great. is there way to erxclude reset from specific fields (that are a part of a repeating table in the form).

    Thanks,

    Assaf
