    Credential Request/Query Error

    Hi all,

I've published a 2010 IP form to a 2007 MOSS site.  On the form, there is a button that starts a data query to GetUserProfilebyName to pull back the submitter's data.  The button has worked for me everytime - during previews and after publishing to MOSS.  I'm set up as a site owner.

I just put some initial users on the form to do some testing.  They are set up in MOSS with contributor access via groups in our active directory.  When they open a form, and click the button, they are get a pop-up request for their login and password.  It appears to be from entmoss04.

I tested setting up two of the users with site owner access.  This time, after clicking the button, there is no pop up, but the data connection fails.  The error details state:

The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: GetUserProfileByName
InfoPath cannot run the specified query. The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server:Server was unable to process request. ---> Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.

I think the issue is with how our sharepoint farms are set up within the company - they have implemented numerous restrictions (i.e. no form services, excel services, etc.).  That it won't let certain access levels pull back that data.  We don't have great IT support for IP and SP, so I'm not really getting anywhere with them.  I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced this and has advice, a solution or just a "forget it, it won't work" answer for me.
The form is restricted to certain submitters... but there are a LOT of them.  Ideally, we want to have consistent data entered (and correct email/phone), which is why I was going with the GetUser.. option.  I'd prefer not maintaining a list of all of our possible submitters to be able to do this...

Thanks for any thoughts that can be provided!

    Jen

    Re: Credential Request/Query Error

IMO, it is the complete waste of time to put such kind of questions of how we screwed our system administration or network infrastructure into the forums.

You should have run it in virtual machine with backups before any small incremental separate changes but not tweaking all at once

Though, I am completely ready to admit that I am wrong if someone telepathically and magically resolve your issues

Thanks for the insolent reply.  It's not illogical to think someone on this forum may have run into a similar issue and may be able to point me in a direction of trouble-shooting.

Hey, Jen - I think you're right in thinking other people may also have locked down SharePoint scenarios - and that it is not at all unlikely that others have run into this. Of course, whether they have found a solution may be the issue - it may just be a scenario where the easiest thing to do is keep another list that you do have access to.

Not sure if this would be an option for you, but the company I work for sells an Active Directory web service that could perhaps be used in place of your current logic?

Does the data connection succeed for someone at all? whom?

    Re: Credential Request/Query Error

    Found this solution here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jingmeili/archive/2007/05/31/how-to-display-current-user-s-full-name-email-and-other-info-in-infopath.aspx

I believe users of the form will need permissions to the site set up as well.

The query cannot be run for the following DataObject: GetUserProfileByName
InfoPath cannot run the specified query.
The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server:

Server was unable to process request. ---> Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.

Cause: I was calling the web service against the server root  that I didn’t have access to.  For example http://server/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx but I didn’t have access to http://server

Solution: Call the web service against the site the InfoPath template lives in, which the current user has access to. For example http://server/sites/sitename/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx
