Query data from SharePoint list. What type of data connection should i use?

Can someone assist me in figuring out what type of data connection I need.

In a SharePoint list I have about 10,000 stock tickers in one column and there full name in another.   I want to query the list by ticker to pull back one fund name in a Browser enabled Infopath Form.   Example;  Search: CSCO  Result: Cisco Systems

I really really hope you are using IP 2010 & ShP 2010? Are you? If so, you can just add a data connection to the list, but don't automatically query on load. Then you can set the query field to the value you want to search for and run the query in form rules.

    Hilary-
Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, I am using both SP 2010 and IP 2010. I cannot seem to get this to function correctly. I am getting an error message that states "Some rules were not applied. The parameter is incorrect.".

Here is what I have and what I did.

    3 Controls:1.Ticker Input textbox 2.Find Button 3.Full fund dropdown

On the Find button control I created a rule to sets the value of the ticker input textbox equal to the ticker field in SP. On the same find button I queried the SP list.

I then set the full fund dropdown equal to the full fund name in SharePoint.

I receive the error message when I click the find button.

I created a new form and it worked. I need to get the old form working.  The old form was created in IP 2007.  It appears the option when you set the field equal to a field in SP its missing the queryFields option the only thing available is dataFields.

Got it. The data connection had to be upgradded to 2010 version.  Changed the form type to web browser form, then upgraded data connections and relinked fields.

Hey, great! glad you got it working!

I love the query fields in ShP 2010 / IP 2010.
