Username showing of current user not person who submitted form

I am using a SP list vs a forms library.  The field on the form (username) shows the person who is entering the form, but when someone else views the form in the list it changes that field to be the person who is viewing it.  So it seems to be showing the current username vs submitter name.

Any  idea why that is happening??  Any thoughts would  be very helpful.

Using InfoPath 2010 and SP 2010 (enterprise)

    Thanks

     Hi,

If you're calling the username function, then what you could do is have a rule that sets a field on load.

For example: if Submitter is blank (meaning it is a blank form), call username function and set the Submitter field

You could also run the username function on a field as a default value if you want to capture the current user.

    Good luck!

Thanks Ernesto, still new to this stuff, can you give me a little more direction?

Do I do a form load, set field's value, and then set the "submitter name" based upon the username of the person logged in?  I don't know how to "call the username and set" the value... any steps would be helpful.

     Thank you again

    Hi,

I'm attaching a sample form which contains form load rules.

Download the xsn and then open it in Design mode to take a look at how this is set up.

    Good luck!

Can someone help me understand how to download the file?  I enter in my infopathdev id and password but it denies me.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks!

Right click the link. Select Save As. Save the file locally. Right click the saved file. Select Design to open in design mode.

I have tried it all.  Whenever I go to actually open the file, locally or not it tells me that the form cannot be opened because it requires the domain permission level and it currently has restricted permission.  To fix this problem, open the form from the location it was published to.

If I try to open directly from the link, it prompts me for a password, I put in my infopathdev id and pwd, and i still get the same error.

That is because you are trying to open the form. IP forms don't care to be moved.

Right click the saved file. Select Design. That should open in design mode. Have you tried that?

Ok... so after finally figure out how to few the example, I put in on my form, published it, created an item and had a co worker look at this time, and tada.. my name is there not his.  Yeah sucess!... well sort of...   When I open the form it will automatically fill in my name and manager which is what I want it to do.  However, when my coworker or anyone else for that matter go in to fill out the form, the name and manager is blank.  I have the username shoved at the bottom so I can see it is seeing their ID.  any idea on why it would populate my info and not theirs??

I have tried to think of every scenario but am at a loss.... yet again....  any thoughts would be great

First I would check whether the data connection is executing for these other users. If it's executin.g, but not returning any data, then I would check whether the user's profile has valid data, such as the manager.

    Good luck!

Re: Username showing of current user not person who submitted form

I'm having this same issue...sort of. I'm using InfoPath 2007 and have the form published to a SharePoint site where my library collects all the completed versions of the form users have filled out. I have a rule that tells the form to set a field's value to the name retreived from the "GetUserProfileByName" data connection. I have a separate 'read only' view where this is displayed and I've set the display field to be read-only as well.

Everything works as I expected so that the submitter's ID is displayed in my SharePoint column where I've promoted this field. The submitter's ID is also displayed when the form is emailed (submit via data connection). However, when I access the SharePoint library where the form is saved, even though I see the submitter's ID right there in my promoted field column, when I go to open the form it displays my information instead. This is happening despite the fact that the view that opens is read only & the display field is set to read only. I can't figure out why it's displaying correctly when emailed & the correct name appears on the promoted column in the library list but not on the actual form that is saved in the library.

I'm sure there's some setting somewhere that I missed - Anyone have any idea where?

    Thanks for any help!!

Hi - my guess is that you have a default value in the form for userName() and it is being updated (as expected) when you re-open the form. Since you aren't submitting or saving the data, the value in your promoted property isn't being changed. I usually don't use defaults with userName() - instead, set a rule on form load that if the target field is blank, set it to the value of userName() - does that make sense?

So, this is embarassing... I found the fix and it was super simple. All I had to do was go to the read-only view where my field is displayed, go to the properties and uncheck the box that reads "update this value when the result of the formula is recalculated". Just in case anyone else has this same issue.
