    Broke my buttons with rules

So I have a simple set up where if a drop down box is set to a certain value hitting the next page button will go to a certain page. I added a new page and am well on my way to finishing this form. Now when I go back to test it and fill the form out properly and hit next, nothing happens, I've checked all of my rules and they are set properly but I can't get it to work for the life of me and I'd rather not go through and spend another three hours recreating this form, any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

If you are not using this forum's participants  as free shrinks, then you should provide the steps to reproduce your problem.

IMO, starting from scratch is wonderful, universal all-purpose time-saving approach making wonders and producing magics in Infopath development.

    1. Create drop down box, options yes, no. 2. Create two new views and enter something on them so you can tell the difference. 3. Create a button with a condition and rule that goes to a certain page: Rule 1: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 1 then switch view to view2 Rule 2: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 2 then switch view to view3 This setup was working before I added another page with a previous button condition: Rule 1: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 1 then switch to view2 Rule 2: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 2 then switch to view1 After creating that view (Three views total) all of my buttons that relied on that drop down box stopped working completely. This also applies to new documents.

What do you mean under "options yes, no" - option button with 2 choices - or what?

Where and how is this used

    ikith:
    3. Create a button with a condition and rule that goes to a certain page: Rule 1: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 1 then switch view to view2 Rule 2: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 2 then switch view to view

From this I conclude that you use the terms view and page as synonyms interchageably?

    ikith:
3 This setup was working before I added another page with a previous button condition: Rule 1: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 1 then switch to view2

And how do you want it to work?

The chosen value for drop-down list is the same 1, nobody can change it, since drop-down list is on another, previous  view View1, the current View is View2 and by pressing a button the only choice is to switch to current view View2

    ikith:
Rule 2: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 2 then switch to view1 After creating that view (Three views total) all of my buttons that relied on that drop down box stopped working completely. This also applies to new documents.

This does not make sense again. The only available action after coming to view View3 is to switch to view View3
And how do you want it to work?

What I mean was create a drop down box then manually add the options: Yes No To the drop down box
    ikith:
Sorry, yes I'm using them both interchangeably since I'm using views as "pages" thought I caught them all when I went back and read it again.
    ikith:

This is what I am trying to figure out, all of this was working when I tested it until I added a third page. What is supposed to happen is when I hit the next button it looks at the drop down box in this case asking if the employee is a temp or not, and if they are a temp it switches to a view that has details about being a temp at the company and then signs to acknowledge that they have read and understood those terms. If they are not a temp specified by the drop down box it skips that view entirely. Hence the rules: If -tempemployee- is equal to 1 Action: switch to view -tempemployee- Rule: If -tempemployee- is equal to 2 Action Switch to view -nontempemployee-
    ikith:
Rule 2: If -dropdownbox- is equal to 2 then switch to view1 After creating that view (Three views total) all of my buttons that relied on that drop down box stopped working completely. This also applies to new documents.
This does not make sense again. The only available action after coming to view View3 is to switch to view View3 And how do you want it to work?
This part I also didn't make clear enough, by a "Previous button" condition I meant a button that goes "backwards" through the views so it checks the temp box and if it is set to 1 it will go back to the temp employee page which would be the previous page in the case of a temporary employee, but if it is set to 2 it will go back to the beginning page because the user is not a temporary employee and should never see the temporaryemployee view. Now, all of this was working until I started working on my 3rd view then somehow it stopped working, I didn't change any rules, data sources or any of that. When I create a new document I get the same result, if I set up the same type of rule.

I am trying to reproduce what you did.

I understood that all users   pass view3 but only temp workers pass view2

I believe you do not need "previous" button and 2 rules per button on view2 and view3

Just go always (by pressing a button):

    • view2 --> view3, and
    • view3 --> view1
    • and on view1 you have 2 rules

one will have possibility to repeat views by going in cycle always in "one" direction

Re: Broke my buttons with rules

Hi - usually when this happens for me, I find that the conditions on my rules are causing the issue - normally because I believe that my conditions are resolving to true, but they are not for some reason. Do you have any conditions on your rules?

Re: Broke my buttons with rules

I had to change my rules, it stopped letting me use 1, or 2 for drop downs I had to actually use the option to make it work, previously it was letting me use 1-5 for combo boxes, oh well its fixed now I suppose. Thanks for the help guys.
