SharePoint Lists - Creating Parent-Child Connections with InfoPath Forms - May 10, 2012 Webinar

    Hello, Hilary,

    I watched few times:

Isn't there any text about this (blog, post, discussion )?

    There is a picture telling:

    Sharepoint Approach

      • Connect Web Parts
        • - Page refreshes can be a misrable experience
      • Enter parent item in its list, then go to the child list and enter the details
        • Fun!
    I couldn't grasp the last 2 phrases:
    is the "fun":
    •  without connecting web parts?
    • with both lists on the same web page?
    • synonym of "miserable experience" or it is about using Infopath + qRules Approach?

Was your shareoint approach in connecting sharepoint parent (Order) list data view web part with infopath child list (Order Details) form web part?

Could you share the website's WSP solution with lists mimicking Northwind database?

I tried to get it following:

Hi - this was from a webinar back in May.

Don't read too much into the word "Fun" in the slide. It was meant sarcastically, and applied only to the parent bullet above it: Enter parent item in its list, then go to the child list and enter the details

I see you have already left a comment about your Office 365 difficulties for the creator of the Northwind template. I've not used it in Office 365, and have no advice on that.

Yes, I did intend for connected web parts to be assumed to be a SharePoint approach. I also feel that the page refreshes in that approach would try the patience of most users.

Hope that helps with your questions.

    Hello, Hilary,
Well, my doubt and respectiveky question was whether you called by Sharepoint approch the attempt of connecting a (non-IP) list view web part with Infopath web part
or I missed the part where you are connecting web parts without Infopath Form Web part involvement?

Oh, I see - yes, I think everything I touched on probably involved InfoPath - here's an InfoPath free approach if you are interested.

Here's the link to our free webinar page. The content varies.

I saw that link and followed all articles from that series, it involves javascripting, and/or JQuery while misleadingly claiming OOTB and still having too many collateral problems.

I've made it really OOTB and am going to blog about it. That's for I need some sample lists and asked about Northwind sharepoint site.
That your link uses list task like:

    • "Drink and be merry"
I do not feel me comfortable to promote or associate me to any drinking, especiailly by the others

Well, I spend a lot of time testing and reproducing/re-checking issues starting from scratch  and a big portion of all time is just being spent for creating and filling lists. And this is not the main problem - I'd like to have the same reproducible content understandable and recognizable both by me and others, in case I'll make screenshot to post/publish them without creating presentable content.

    Hilary Stoupa:
    - here's an InfoPath free approach if you are interested

Wouldn't it be less confusing to call it the "mixed approach"?

Anyway, I'd like to understand how Infopath forms can be used without  any Sharepoint involvement at all
    I would appreciate any references

to webinar or not to webinar (how to handshake it?)

I am afraid to infect me by giggling. Is it possible to communicate there through text messages?
I've never participated in webinars but I tried and the problem was that, after a lot of calculations of my local time, I missed the appointed time.
Even more, after that I even couldn't understand where I was wrong in calculating my local time.

There is a real mess. For example , Microsoft Windows time service on intenet incorrectly changes the time on my computer (and I have it always switched off) as well as MS Windows clock shows my time zone difference with GMT (+0:00) incorrectly.

On intenet there are the same abbreviation(s) for different  time zone and vice versa different terms abbreviations by different vendors, countries, etc. for the same time zone.

Well, it is really the pain in the ass to burn time for nothing.

Is it possible to synchronize the time and details of webinar(s) by some previous online hand-shaking?

To the best of my knowledge, the webinars are always held at 8am Pacific on Thursday, which is a clearly defined time and day.  If you would tell us what time zone you are in, we can tell you what would correspond to the webinar time.

I am in Novosibirsk. Novosibirsk time zone is GMT+7:00

Not sure how you are going to determine the difference if MS "Windows Time" service as well as site options of my profile in infopathdev.com determines my Novosibirsk time zone  as GMT+6:00:

wCMS and forum software insists that Novosibirsk time is GMT+6:00 while it is really GMT+7:00

Microsoft Windows clock and time service insists that Novosibirsk time is GMT+6:00 while it is really GMT+7:00

    My Self The Enemy:

Well, I'll use my brain, which should free me from having to rely on the Windows Time service.

If your timezone is GMT +7, then the webinars should be happening at 10 PM Thursday in your timezone.  After DST ends (November 4), the webinars will be at 11 PM Thursday in your timezone.  That should do it.
