    infopath form, sharepoint2010, database

    Hi,

I have an existing InfoPath form(time off request) that publishes to a SharePoint list (which I did not created) now I have been asked to show the time off request info (who, dates, if its approved ,etc) in a calendar in SharePoint 2010.  The form itself contains I the data that I will need.I am guessing, but I would assume that I need to store the data in a database and retrieve it to show the required data that was on the InfoPath form. If there is a better method, or idea please tell me. I hate doing unnecessary or doing something, just to find out later there was a better way.I not sure but I  think I would to create a web services so submitted data to database and SharePoint list.. Then display it on the calendar.Could someone shed some light this please? Am I on the right track? If so, we can I go to get more info on creating a webservice that does what need?

I do not know what you mean by:

    jbungay:
    publishes to a SharePoint list

Do you mean the form submits to a form library? Or is the form a SharePoint list form?

A Sharepoint library. Still working on getting the terminology right.

Yeah, it can take a little while to get all the terms figured out - and since they are pretty different things, it makes a big difference in the suggestions you'll get.

So, the time off requests - is this repeating data in your form? Or is it flat (i.e., one request per form)?

If it is flat, there are several ways you can do this - you could promote all the fields with info you need to the library and use a workflow (created in SharePoint designer) to copy data from your library to your calendar. You could submit your data for your calendar to the UpdateListItems method of the Lists web service using CAML.

If it is repeating, you'll either need custom code of some kind or you could use qRules - which makes submitting form data to a SharePoint list pretty simple.

Thanks . There is repeating data on the form,. So I don`t need to go to database route. I just need to write some custom code or use some gRules. grules make this time of pretty simple.

Great, Let hope i can understand gRules quickly and easily.-)

    Thanks again.

Here's a walkthrough on using SubmitToSharePointList. One thing to note - Calendar lists are bit picky about their date time format - here's a blog post on that. The qRules forum is here, in case you get stuck.
