InfoPath Dev

I have a pretty strange situation  here... I have an Infopath form that is customizing the edit view of a list in Sharepoint.  In this form I have a person picker field that I do not want to be manditory, however if I go to the properties and try to uncheck 'Cannot be blank' it never actually saves the change...  I can change any other property of this control, however Cannot be blank is always checked when I go back into the properties.

 Has anyone seen this before?  Is there a logical explanation as to why it always goes back to being checked?

Actually I just put in a new person pick field and changed the binding to the one that was giving me issues, and then deleted the old one...  That seemed to trick it although I'm still having the issues I thought that was causing; I'm going to just make another post so I can be more specific.
