Connection to database in 2010 vs 2007

Hi, I have an interesting dilemma.  I set up a form using infopath 2010 and connected to my database without issue.  It's on a mapped drive that everyone has access to and everyone uses the same path to access the folder.

In our organization we have a lot more computers that use 2007 rather than 2010.  Those using 2007 report that they could not submit as it was saying it could not connect to the data source.

Using infopath on one of their computers, I discover that, upon entering design mode, the design itself couldn't connect to the database.  I put in the exact same path I had on my own computer, and suddenly the form is working for both versions.

Can anyone explain this behaviour?  Or perhaps where I've gone wrong in my development on 2010?

    Thanks!

So it's working now? The only reason I could think of for this to happen is that IP2007 might not have been configured for the specific type of connection? It's possible that it didn't know what specifically it was looking to connect to so it just failed to connect. Then again, InfoPath does do some strange things sometimes that I can't really explain at all.

Were you saving the template created in IP 2010 as an IP 2007 template? You must have been, or your users wouldn't have been able to open it at all. There must just be some difference between the data connections in the two versions - glad it works for you now...

I have had the exact same issue here... Can't explain the behaviour, but it is a real bugger when you have to redo the data connection of all the forms... My users have seen mainly two types of errors because of this: "database unavailable" and "domain rights needed"... All have been resolved by reconnecting the forms to the database on an Office 2007 machine, works for now, but can't be manageable on a long term...

Did you save a copy of your form before you walked through the data connections again? I would love to compare the manifest.xsf in the two of them and see if there is an obvious difference here....

I did not (that's a classic!)... But I have a few forms that will need the same procedure... I will be doing them on next Tuesday and will keep a copy of both versions!

Please do, and send me an email via the forum - I'll reply & you can send me the files, if you don't mind...

David - thanks so much for sharing your form files with me - for the sake of others, here's what we found (and if I misstate anything, David, please don't hesitate to correct me):

    1. The original form, which was designed in InfoPath 2010 and saved as InfoPath 2007 form has a database connection to an Access database. The second form David sent me was the same form, but had been opened in design mode in InfoPath 2007, and he'd walked through the data connection again.
    2. In the original form, the data connection in the manifest.xsf file included "Jet OLEDB:Bypass UserInfo Validation=False". This was not present in the data connection created in InfoPath 2007.
    3. So, I removed that from the manifest and saved the source files as XSN again, and sent it back to David to see if it worked now - and he reported that it did.

Needless to say, always keep a copy of your form before modifying source files, etc, etc, but it may be faster than having to re-connect to the DB in IP 2007.
