Infopath data to SQL Server 2008 Question

    Hi,

I know this question is asked a lot and I have done a lot of reading about how to actually insert data entered in an InfoPath form into a MS SQL Server database.

Basically, when I try to create an InfoPath form with the Database template and I enter the server address that the SQL Database is running on I get an error "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect().]SQL Server does not exist or access denied."

Once I got this error I decided to try creating the connection to the Database by using a web service, however, that comes to the same error.

Basically, the Server that the SQL Server Database is running on is on another domain than my client computer, however, I have set the login credentials on the web service and the Database template to be the credentials for the Server and not the credentials for the client Windows logon.

So my question is...is this an issue because the Server is on another domain? And how can I fix it? The Network Admin at the office is out for the rest of the week so I can't really ask him, hence why a I am posting here and I would really like to make some progress rather than wait until next week.

    Thank you!

Re: Infopath data to SQL Server 2008 Question

If you're using a browser-based form (not the InfoPath filler), you need to use a Web service and a UDCX file. Your UDCX file should be configured with credentials that will access the other machine. If it's a separate domain, you may need to use SSO or Kerberos to configure the credential passing.

If you are using an InfoPath filler form, you could force it by making the form Full Trust. That will enable cross-domain calls, but that may not help since it's the Web service which must login to the SQL DB.

You should look at our generic DBXL Web service. We can help you configure it to work. Best news is that it will work for all of your form templates and it's data-driven which means it can handle changes to your form or database in the future without having to stop the submission process.

Re: Infopath data to SQL Server 2008 Question

Alright well I've basically created a web service that should send the data from InfoPath to the database, I have deployed the web service (took a while to figure out) but I can now access it from my web browser.

Basically my web service has a URL like this http://server.name/_vti_bin/InfoPathWebService.asmx.

Now I've gone into my InfoPath form and went to 'Submit Options', selected 'Allow users to submit this form' and selected 'Web Service' from the dropdown then 'Add'. Once I enter my web service address and click next it comes up with an error saying 'The Internet Address  'http://server.name/_vti_bin/InfoPathWebService.asmx?WSDL' is not valid.'

So what have I done wrong? If I add the '?WSDL' to the end of the web service URL I also can't access it.What needs to be done to add that '?WSDL'?

Thanks for any help, I am unsure where to start looking for a solution to this as it just seems to now work for InfoPath but I can access it otherwise.

It's possible that you created a Web Service which is incompatible with InfoPath. WSDL = Web Service Description Language. Your Web Service needs to be SOAP-based and Document Literal format (not RPC Encoded).

One quick way to get this working is to install our generic DBXL Web service trial. That will save you tons of time. :)
