 Looking for the equiv. of the left function with a find " - " in it  . . . any thoughts?

I created an action rule with the following:

Condition - Lookup field dropdown (greater than 1)

Action

Set a Fields Value - Team = substring-before(string(Lookup dropdown field), string(" -  "))

But whenever I run this nothing actually populates in the Team field

 Any thoughts?
