    Populate repeating table

    I have looked in the forum for an answer to this, but it doesn't quite work how I would expect.

    I have three repeating tables, one containing those who are present at a meeting, one containing those who have sent apologies, and one containing those who should receive the minutes ie a distribution list. The first two tables can be populated by data input, and the last one should be populated by the first two, so that the distribution list contains those who are present, plus those who sent apologies. However, at the moment only the last one entered on one or other table is in the distribution list. I've tried using the current() function, but it will not allow a filter - I get the error message:

    A filter cannot be applied to the currently selected field. Select a different field.

    and have to cancel. The only reason I can think of it not working is that the data source is an XML schema, which will in the future be a web service.

    Hope someone can help,

    T

    Hi T and welcome to our forum,
    Congratulations on creating the 2000th thread. I've asked Greg to look into this. More soon,

    It sounds to me like you are making things more complicated that you need to. Unless your requirements mandate that you have two different tables -- why not just have a single table.

    So, for example, if you have
    T1 = Present
    T2 = Appologies
    T3 = Notify

    And each table has a list of names (for sake of argument, we'll say a single field with full name)

    Then instead have a single table:
    T1 = Everyone

    And this table has two fields: FullName (text) and Present (Boolean checkbox)

    This way all three tables grab off the same data. When you enter the data in you simple check whether they were present. If not checked, they sent an apology.

    Then you only have 1 data source and can create filtered tables (FT) for "displaying" the information you want:

    FT1 = Present (i.e. check box selected)
    FT2 = Apology (i.e. check box cleared)
    FT3 = Notify (i.e. everyone -- check box selected or cleared)

    Re: Populate repeating table

    Thanks Greg, I've tried this but now have another problem. I still need to have three repeating tables, and in order to do what you have suggested, I need to have one repeating table filtered for those that are present, one filtered for those that sent apologies, and one showing all. Unfortunately, as it is using the same fields on all three, whatever I change on one will affect the others. The only way as I can see it is to have the same data with three different names (like variable names) but I can't find any way of changing the names of anything without changing the others as well. I think this must be because I'm having to use an XML schema (UK government standard!) to create the form.

    Any ideas?

    Ah - I did not realize you needed to have different data in each of the three tables. It sounded as though you had the same data and just wanted to filter it.

    Does your third table need to actually hold data, or just be a visual representation of the data contained in the first two tables?
