Reply Contact Well, you can change your filter, of course, so that you can use the ID for the value. Or you can add additional fields to your form that you set to the ID when the user selects an item, and submit those ID fields instead of the fields with the display name in them. I don't understand if the last part of your question has to do with the first part, or is another issue: dlgross: i'm not getting the id for the lookup column populated which makes these records orphans, what am i doing wrong in this case. My 1st dropdown is for a Category, when i set ist Value to @ID and DisplayName to @Category, the filtering on the second dropdown fails. Reply Contact I am having a really hard time understanding the issue. Your first drop down is bound to a main data source field, correct? And then your second dropdown has a filter that you only want to show values where a certain field in the secondary data source providing values to the control is equal to the main data source field bound to the first drop down, right? Feel free to attach your template under the Options tab in a reply if you'd like help with your filters. Reply Contact Thanks for sharing your form - now I understand the issue. The data connection to the list for Core Process returns the Category - and the SharePoint list data connection must be returning the display value for the Category (makes sense, now that I've seen the data connections). You could do this with a more complex filter. For example, for your Core Process drop down, you'd want to display the items where: @CPCategory = xdXDocument:GetDOM("CoreProcessCategories")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/dfs:CoreProcessCategories/@CPCategory[../@ID = xdXDocument:get-DOM()/my:myFields/my:CPCategory] So, if your CPCategory in your main data source was storing the ID, the above would filter the Core Process data source for any where the CPCategory was equal to the display from the CoreProcessCategories where the ID was equal to the selected ID. I'm attaching your form with the modified filters - of course, I can't test them in my enviro, but I think I have them set up correctly, if you decide to take this approach. However - then your promoted properties in your library you submit to will also be affected, since now you'd be promoting the ID instead of the display. Probably going to be best to just stick with some other nodes to contain the ID. Reply Contact I took a look at your form files - I see you have two submit commands - the first submits to synopsis, the second to metrics. Your synopsis submit has an id parameter in the command. That field is synopsisID. When the command executes, that field should get populated with the ID from the SharePoint list. So all you need to do is make sure that field is mapped. Your metrics mapping has mapped the my:myFields/my:Metrics group for the repeating group. So, when you map a list column to the synopsis Id, it needs to be the relative XPath from the Metrics group to the synopsisID field. One easy way to find that path is to open InfoPath, and pretend like you are addind a rule to the Metrics group. Add a condition, and select the synopsisID for the first field in the condition. Then change the first drop down to "The expression" - everything to the left of the equal sign is the relative path to the field. In your case, that would be: ../my:synopsisID So, for your metrics mapping - ../my:synopsisID (case and spelling matter here - has to be exactly the same as the XML field) would be the form field that you are mapping to your synopsis lookup. However, I see you have also got a field named "synopsisID" in your Metrics group - you could map that, if you wanted, to the column in the list for the synopsis lookup - but you'd want to make sure its default value was the higher level synopsisID that is getting set when your first command runs. Hi - searching the forum, I found this post. Are you trying to submit to a lookup column?
Thanks for the quick response, i was not even sure where to get started.
Yes, my form has several secondary data connections that pull choices from sharepoint lists. i'm trying to submit the form data to another SP list that contains lookup columns from those same lists.
After i get this working, i am going to add a repeating table to the IP Form that submits to another SP List (which i am eventually going to connect a chart in SQL Reporting Services)
So - it is actually simpler to submit to lookups than I used to think - just submit the item ID. That means, your choices should store the ID of the other list item, so that you are submitting the ID for the item to the other list - am I making sense? I feel a little incoherent today.

I took a look at your form files - I see you have two submit commands - the first submits to synopsis, the second to metrics.
In your case, that would be:
../my:synopsisID
So, for your metrics mapping - ../my:synopsisID (case and spelling matter here - has to be exactly the same as the XML field) would be the form field that you are mapping to your synopsis lookup.
However, I see you have also got a field named "synopsisID" in your Metrics group - you could map that, if you wanted, to the column in the list for the synopsis lookup - but you'd want to make sure its default value was the higher level synopsisID that is getting set when your first command runs.
