    Help with Infopath development

Hey all I have a lot of experience with SharePoint but I am very limited on my InfoPath skills so I hope this is the right place to post this question. At my company we use SharePoint 2010 and the full Office Suite 2010. I am trying to build a form to add and edit project information at the top of the form and then display a long list of requirements and get information on each row of requirements and I cant seem to figure out the best way to make this happen. Using Access I built a project information table, a records table that will record data from each of the deliverables rows and a third table that has four columns that are the information for each deliverable row. Playing with Repeating tables I am able to display all of the rows in the deliverables table but it also shows all of the projects in the project information table (which I would like to limit to just the one either being added or modified). I would gladly give more details if needed on how this is setup, I just didn't want to waste everyone's time reading what wasn't necessarily. I have looked at this write up http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/matt/archive/2006/02/02/Add-SharePoint-List-Items-with-InfoPath.aspx but I can seem to wrap my head around how to use this in this situation. Any help to identify the best solution for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris

    Hi -

So, just to be sure I understand - what is the desired end result here?

You want your form to save data to a database (you mention Access) or to SharePoint (you refer to a link that talks about adding items to a SharePoint List from InfoPath).

Conditional formatting can be used to limit the display of items in a repeating table - you just need to hide the rows that don't have matching project IDs (or whatever your identifier is).

You are correct I built the database using MS Access and then imported the tables onto my sharepoint site. The conditional formatting makes perfect sense and I will implement that as well. My concern is that currently I am not able to display information from all three tables. I can see the project information and the deliverables table as a repeating table but it doesnt allow me to show only one project I see all in the project information table and it doesnt show the fields from the records table to allow input there. Also I can not seem to add a new project when I have it set that way. I would believe (and please correct me if I am wrong here) but what I would like to see is a standard form using just the project information fields then add a sub-form that allows for a repeating table correlating between listing the deliverables table and the records for each deliverable and all of that is based on the project ID from the project information table. If this is correct then I need to find a way to add in a subform inside of an infopath form which I can not find to do. Also I cant find how to build it so that it allows for standard view and repeating in the same form.

So - what is your desired end result? A form that submits data to SharePoint Lists? InfoPath doesn't do that out of the box (I should say - you can create SharePoint List forms, and they will submit to a single list - but it sounds like you have a more complex relationship set up here).

Are all these tables secondary data connections in your form? Or is the form based off the Access DB?

If the form is bound to the Access Database, you can leverage the Query fields to return information for only a single project.

It is possible to have parent / child data displayed in a form - as long as the database tables the form is bound to have the correct relationship set up when the connection to the database is set up.
