Link form template to prefilled XML

I have an excel file of data that I want to link to my infopath form. But I want to be able to launch my form and then through a piece of key data (eg. An ID number) prefill a section of the form. Is this possible? If so, how do I go about this?

    Hi Arielle,

I think you would need to convert the excel data to XML file first. Once that is converted, you can create a data connection to your XML file and set it to query on load. From there you can add rules on Form Load that sets the fields in your form to your XML data based on ID number.

    Hope that helps,

    Jo-Anne

I thought about that, but the problem is that I have the parent field with a number of options and depending on which one the user picks there are several sub-options he/she can choose from.  Tiered drop down boxes is what I need to be able to create and since you can't have an ID number be both repeating and the primary key inside an access file I'm not sure what to do.  I don't know how to create an XML file from scratch so I've been making my data connection libaries inside Microsoft Access b/c Infopath accepts the format.
