Different validation error messages for Custom Rules button / Submit button... why?

    Goodday!

I have a form where I need to have two different submit buttons (names Save and Submit, for later reference). For one I use a button with type "Submit", the other is a normal button with custom rules. When I deliberately have a validation error, I get a different error message for the buttons. See screenshots below.

Error after pressing the Save button:

Error after pressing the submit button:
    Error after Submit

Attached I have a very simple xsn file, showing the minimal requirements to show this error. For my own form, I am using InfoPath 2007, with a web-based form, no code.

Why is there a difference in error message? And how can I make both errors the same?

I hope someone can provide some information and help me get a consistant error message for users. Please let me know if you need more information.

    Best regards,
    Mathijs

    Hi Mathijs,

I don't have any idea why the error is different for the buttons. In your case, what I would do is disable the Save and Submit buttons by using formatting rules and enable them only when all the required fields are filled in. That way you can prevent those errors.

    Hi Jo-Anne,

Thank you for your reply. As a matter of fact, I already have conditional formatting on them (in my own form). Depending on the status of the form (hidden field), they see either one button or the other. However, I just have to deal with the possibility of user errors, and I would like them to see an error they understand. I still hope I have influence on this.

In the mean time I have tried InfoPath 2010, but it has the same result.

Is there any other forum or place I can ask this question? I'm quite new to InfoPath so I don't know the good online resources yet...

EDIT: I misunderstood your suggestion, but now I do understand :-). Technically your suggestion should indeed work, but the problem is the amount of validations required. For the Save button it is 4 validations, but the Submit button would need 20+ validations (times 2, for 2 different languages). It is just too much
