Create a Link that opens Infopath Form

I have an infopath form published to a sharepoint site.  My supervisor wants users to be able to click a link that takes them directly to the infopath form.  Currently users have to go to the list click "NEW" then fill out the form.  I am lost as i don't have alot of experience with infopath forms.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Where are you creating the link?

The URL address itself is easy to obtain. Just go to the form library, click New, and then copy the URL shown in the browser's URL bar.

If your form is opening in InfoPath and not in the browser, the URL is usually:

    http://server/site/library/Forms/template.xsn

With the URL to your library up to the /Forms.

What if the form is published as a content type?  When I try the URL for the content type template, infopath tells me it can't create a new form because it requires Domain level permission.  But the "NEW" button works just fine on the sharepoint library.

The link will always be the same when someone is creating a new form. So if you click New and the new, blank form opens, then that's the URL that you need to use. Good luck!

We use SharePoint 2010. I set the link to point directly to the template, just as you have given here, and it's fine in IE 8.

However, when my co-worker tried to launch the form using my link via IE 9 the form failed and it was attempting to open within the browser. Even though the form library advanced settings are set to open in the application, not the browser.

Is there a <a href> tag to force the application to open in infopath and not the browser?

For me this is enough if library adv settings say so...

Does your colleague have Infopath installed locally (on his/her machine)?

Also, there are discussions on internet telling to try setting compatibility mode of IE...

?OpenIn=Client though it is overkill, there should be simpler reason and solution

Re: Create a Link that opens Infopath Form

Hoping I can hop on this old string for my question... I was looking to do the same thing as the initiator of the email.  (Note: IP 2010; SP 2007; Using Filler form)

I have the words Create a New Request as a URL that is going to the path to my template:  http://opstd.uhc.com/onesite/intake/LD_Request_Submission/Forms/template.xsn

The link works fine to open the request (although, unlike the "new" button on the library, it doesn't just open it directly, but rather gives me the whole File Download/Do you want to open pop-up).

The issue is that some of my data connections don't work when a new file is opened from this link.  It's just bizarre.  They work fabulously if using the "new" button, but give errors when using the link.  The data connections are configured to deploy on button clicks, not upon opening.

Has anyone run into this issue and know what the heck is going on?

    Thanks!
    Jen

Realized I didn't say what type of connections.  Currently, the connections throwing the error message are ones that are pulling data from lists on the same site as the form itself.
