    Infopath error on server

I am getting a "form contains XML that cannot be parsed"
error when trying to open an infopath form on a server. It only happens on this server. Any ideas?

Is there another line following the error message?

    Re: Infopath error on server

Is the server a SharePoint site or a standard website?

    It's a SharePoint site.

    Hi Lisa,

Just to clarify, the infopath form xml file is on the sharepoint site, and you are opening it from a workstation with Infopath installed? Are you opening an existing form, or are you using 'Fill out this form'?

Any more detail you can provide will help narrow down the possibilities.

    Thx,

Yes, the form is in a document library and is being opened on a workstation using a server with Infopath installed. The user is using fill out this form and when Infopath opens this error is displayed:

    Form template:http://sp/sites/expense/InternalExpenseReport/Forms/template.xsn
The form definition (.xsf) file cannot be opened because of an error.
The form contains XML that cannot be parsed:
The specified module could not be found.

    Line 0, Position 0

    ^
The specified module could not be found.

So this same form works when published to a different site?
Do other forms published to this site open?

It sounds as if the xsn may be corrupted. You can save the template.xsn locally and open the form in design mode. If InfoPath gives an error, the file is probably corrupted.

Yes, the form works when I access it from the office. However some other employess have to access it from a server because they are not in the office. Both involves going to the exact same site on SharePoint and using the exact same Infopath form. We are thinking that it may have to deal with the Knowledgelake Workflow that we are using. Any ideas now?

I am sorry, this sounds more like a server issue and it is beyond my scope of expertise.

Okay, I'm going to install SP2 on the server(currently only has SP1) and see if that works. Thanks for the posts anyway. I'll post whether it works or not.

Good luck. Please let us know if SP2 solves the problem.

Well, neither unistalling and reinstalling Office 2003 or installing SP2 fixed the problem. I've concluded that this is either a server issue, or a remote session issue. We are going to rebuilt the server and go from there.

    Re: Infopath error on server

    Hi Lisa,
This is happening because the XSF failed to upload properly to SharePoint. To fix this problem, you should just go the the SharePoint form library. Click modify settings and columns. Click on Edit Template to open the form in the InfoPath Designer. No, add a space somewhere in the view and delete it - to make save update. Type ctrl-S to save the form template back to the server. Make sure there are no errors. If there are errors, simply try to save it again. Sometimes it takes a few attempts if there is network trouble. Now, go back and try to open the XML file.

If you still have a problem, it must be because the solution is corrupted in some way. You can try to extract the files in the XSN by renaming the extension CAB and using WinZip to extract and then open up the XSF and see what is inside it.

    Good luck!

    Re: Infopath error on server

This error is specific to one server. It works fine going through the SharePoint server. Wouldn't that mean a problem with the server used in the remote session?
