Using a drop-down list box to filter a multiple selection list box in a repeating table.

I have a drop-down list box filtering a multiple selection list box, the filter works fine. My problem is when you add to the repeating table the list box does not operate independently. How can I do that? If you look at the attached image you see the the topic of the drop-down is different but the multi-selection list box is switching to the last topic selected.

I've attached an XSN that hopefully has the behaviour you are looking for.  If you have any questions or if I misunderstood your scenario, let me know.

Thank you for the reply can this apply to external data sources as well? My drop-down is a sharepoint list and my multi selection list box is a list with the first list as the filter.

Yes either the dropdown or MSLB in my example (or even both) can be data from external sources. Let me know if you need a little more guidance in how to set that up.

Yes, that would be great for a little more guidance. I am using external data as I explained above. 2 sharepoint lists one with the topics then used as a calculated value in the other to create the filter.

How do you get current() on the entries field group?

For your filtered control (in my case it was the MSLB), you'l need to apply to filter to that data.  The current should be (sort of) implied since its within the context of the repeating control.  To summarize, here is what you need to do:

    • In the filtered control, go to control properties
    • Select choice from a external source
    • Select the data source you are pulling your data from
    • Open up the entries dialog and select the repeating node that contains all of your data
    • Click on Filter Data on this same dialog
    • Add a filter -> something like columnA is equal to dropdownValue (not sure what your filter is exactly)
    • OK all of the dialogs

The setup is very similar to what I have in my sample that I attached earlier.  The major difference is the 3rd bullet point where I'm pulling in data from a SP list instead of an XML file.  Hope this helps!

Ok thank you for the help. I got it working when I preview but when I upload it to the server I get a critical error with a correlation code telling me to reload the form. Any ideas?

I have attached an .xsn of what I am doing. When I preview it in infopath no issues. When I upload it to the server I get a critical error Start Over.
