    Auto populate filter error

    Hi all

I have followed the very useful information on here regarding auto-populating a field based on options selected from a drop-down menu which returns the first entry held in an SP list but when I add a filter no result is shown (I thought I was doing so well for a moment).

I have a drop-down list for Category, when an option is selected the second drop-down shows sub-categories according to the first option selected.

I then want to add a Contact associated with that category which is held in the same SP list.

I used rules to set a field's value, using xpath to select the Contact field which returns a result of the first name in the Contact list. When filtering I add the secondary data source for sub-category is equal to sub-category from the main data source but nothing is returned.

Any help is very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Kazzahere,

When creating cascading dropdowns, you'd need to add a filter to the sub categories dropdown with a condition: where "Category" (ShP list secondary data source) is equal to "Category" (main data source). Is that what you're doing?

    Hi Jo-Anne

    Thanks very much for replying.

The Category and Sub-Category drop downs are working ok. Not sure exactly what I did but I think in the Control Properties of Sub-Category I looked for data from an external source.

I have tried doing this again and applying rules to the Contacts field but neither works when I add a filter.

Is your "Contacts" field a dropdown too? I think setting up the value within the Control Properties will do - "Get choices from an external data source", and then add the filter to the "Entries" field.

Can you try disabling the rule you mentioned and try it by just using the Control Properties?

I have tried it with a drop-down field and a text field and neither works. Disabled the rule but it still isn't working.

    Really appreciate your help.
