XLS to XML save as "template"

Was wondering.... as i am trying to save my "template" file, I can not do a save as through the form because I have turned that feature off.   Do I need to have this on in order to save the file as a template.xml or did you mean the internet File save as?

    Hi Chris,

Would you be able to temporarily enable that feature, obtain the template file (File > Save As or Save) and then disable saving again?

Sorry for the inconvenience. It's best to obtain a template file from the final location from where the form will accessed. Thank you.

got a question as I am not sure this is a bug or not with the tool.   I am setting up the Mapping... or trying to... and was wondering if I missed something.....  in the Fields there are two columns

Column Name which is the spreadsheet column

Node Xpath which is the temple info......  there is a little icon that i click right next to the Node XPath field (brings up the Form Template Schema Tree).  I click the field i need but I thought it would populate Node Xpath field....it doesn't.   Do I need to go to the original template form and copy the path from there?  Why doesn't this icon seem to work?

also... with the saving of this template, i wanted to mention that this form has qRules + validated (required fields) so I could never submit it unless I filled it out.

You don't need to open the original template. Under General Settings, there is a file attachment control for Template XSN. Is your XSN attached there? If so, then, under Mapping > Root, you would click the icon (if you hover your mouse over the icon it will say "Select Schema Node"). Clicking the icon brings up a taskpane with the form schema. Here you will double click on the root node for your schema, for example, my:Fields.

Then under Fields > Node XPath, you would again click the icon to bring up the schema in the taskpane, and there double click the individual fields to map.

If you've followed all the steps above and you are not seeing this expected behavior, please let us know via [email protected].

To obtain the template.xml you don't need to Submit. Just Save (File > Save or File > Save As). I think InfoPath allows saving even if there are blank required fields.

yes... thats exactly what i did and i did NOT get the expected results.  I double clicked many times... it never populates with the individual fields (for either the Mapping or the Node Xpath)....   I was just wondering have you had any updates to this app?  I will alert support now.
