    XLS to XML question

setting up my spreadsheet in preparation of running the tool,  and have a few questions

    1. Can a field (column) in the spreadsheet can be matched with a field in a repeating table?   Is it as simple as just picking the repeating table field like you would with a regular field in a form?
    2. if your spreadsheet cell contains more than one value seperated by a semicolon, and you want to possibly populate the repeating table with each value going into a seperate row, is this possible or does the cell value only populate the first row of the repeating table with all values of the cell?

    thank you

    Hi-

To populate repeating data you will need two sheets in your Excel spreadsheet. One sheet is the "parent" data and the other sheet is the repeating (child) data.  When using the XLS_To_XML_Mapper.xsn (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Qdabra Software\Qdabra Excel to XML Tool\Forms) you'll need to click "Add Child Sheet", then map that child sheet to the repeating node, and then map the individual fields under the repeating node. Pages 6-7 of the user guide explain how to add a child sheet.

So, the answer to the second question, unfortunately is no. The data cannot be in one field, delimited by a semicolon. The repeating data has to be in a separate sheet.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you run into issues or have additional questions.

so to make sure I understand

    1.  Parent sheet for all regular node fields
    2. Child sheet PER each repeating table

I have 5 repeating tables in the form so I would in turn have five child sheets and the parent sheet CORRECT?

Regarding the second answer you provided.... I think i explained it incorrectly.......  What i meant was in a child sheet, I have a cell that has multiple data in that cell but are seperated by a semicolon.  When i run the wrapper, would it put each data into its on repeating table cell?  Or would it put all the data, regardless of the semi-colon, into one cell.  Would I have to (in the Repeating table), just add a new row cut and paste the data into the new row cells?

For ex.  I have a cell (in the sheet) with - 341; 342; 343; 344; 345     I map it to the repeating table field.  Would it:

    1.  341; 342; 343; 344; 345

    OR

    1. 341
    2. 342
    3. 343
    4. 344
    5. 345

if it does the first, that will be a lot of work of cutting and pasting the data into seperate rows in the repeating table.  If  it is the second scenario, that would be good.   But if it is the first scenario, is there ANY way to do this?  I would think there would have to be a way to seperate these into seperate rows in a repeating field through the wrapper app.

    Correct.

It is the first scenario. The data needs to be manipulated in Excel such that the mapping tool can map one Excel row into one row in the repeating table. I'll ask a developer to take a look at his forum post to see if he has any other ideas.

Please let me know after you talk with your developer what are possiblities of handling the above.
