Can I send an email notification using a SharePoint Designer workflow based on a date field?  I want to dynamically send the email - there will not be a field change or button click to generate the email.

There is no timer event that will go back and check so the workflow must run based on some action (i.e. save or submit). I suppose you could create a workflow that iterates through the forms and checks the ones with status "Not Notified" and looks at their date fields. That sounds custom though or like something that requires a third party tool. My guess. I'm sure there are better ideas out there.

Thanks Patrick.  I looked into creating a custom timer job for this and/or a looping workflow.  I read somewhere that creating a custom timer job was less taxing on the server though.  Both require custom code (something I am trying to avoid for such a small task)...maybe good learning opportunity for me at a later date.  Throughout the life of my form I have 8 or 9 button changes which advance the status of the form so for now I will compare my static date to today's date with each button click then kick off a reminder email notification if appropriate. Of course if the form gets ignored, then the date could come and the reminder becomes moot.
