Multiple sharepoint lists in one infopath form, to view data not submit.

Hey, this forum looks great! i've been using info path wih sharepoint for a few years now but only came across this forum today, wish i had found this years ago!!

Can anyone please help me .....

I have 4 sharepoint (2010) lists, 3 of these lists have a field lookup from the first list which links them all together. Its a unique field so it will never be used twice.

What i want to do is create an info path (2010)  form with a drop down choice field for that unique field, once chosen it will populate all fields with data from all of the 4 lists which share that unique field value.

This form is just to collate the data and print, i do not want to submit any data anywhere.

I have created a new blank form then created data connections to "recieve" data from all 4 lists. Now im stuck, nothing i have tried has worked :(

    Please help!!!!

Thank you very much in advance

    John

Well i have figured out how to do this all within one main list, still need help pulling in data from other lists.

Created data connections to all lists

I have created a drop down field, pointed this to the unique field in the main list data connection, so this now shows a drop down of all items in the list.

then i create new fields (in this case mostly single like text boxes). Right click > properties > give the field a meaningfull name > click Xpath > insert field or group > select the data connection i created to the main list > expand data fields > select the relevant field > select filter data > Add new filter. In the first field i choose "ID" second field "Equal To" third field "select field or group" then point it to the drop down list i created in the "Main" data. click OK a million times.

Then in preview mode i click the drop down list and choose a value then all of the other fields are filled with values connected to my choice.

As i said this works great for all of the fields in the same sharepoint list as my choice field but now i need to do this with fields from other lists which have a lookup from the choice field.

I think the problem is that the values in the lookup columns are showing as numbers (IDs)  instead of the actual values, if i can get this to display the value then i think i can do a similar filter on that value?

    Please Help!!!

Hi - any chance you can attach your template to a reply (under the options tab)?  I can help you with this - basically, you'll still be using an XPath filter, but it is slightly more complex.

Re: Multiple sharepoint lists in one infopath form, to view data not submit.

Stupidly i had unticked "Automatically update" when making the data connections. Once i realised this and modified the connections to check that box using the same method as i used for the first list worked.

For each of 3 list which lookup from the unique field in the first list;  i had to create a new control and filter that to show the lookup value as the lookup ID, then i hid that field and filtered the rest of the fields for that list to that ID field rather than the main field i used for the first list.

Although i had to work all of this out on my own i still have faith in this forum and will hopefully this post will help others in this situation.
