Repeating table displaying in SharePoint list (2010)

    Hi

I have been asked to create a form that will populate a SharePoint list (I'm ok so far). It seems that because the submitter can enter a number of entries that a repeating table would be the best approach but I can find no way of displaying all of the table rows in the SP list, it only displays the first row.

Maybe I am not going about this the right way and there is a better solution than repeating tables.

I am rather new to this so any guidance on this would be gratefully received (in dummy steps please).

    Thanks in anticipation

    Karen

    Hi-

After you create the SharePoint list in 2010, you can click an option in the SharePoint ribbon (in the list) that will generate/create the InfoPath form that corresponds to that list.

    Here is a tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg180738.aspx

    Good luck!

    Hi

    Thanks for your response.

My problem is I need a repeating table that when submitted to the list shows every row not just the first entry so not sure this is something that can be done by creating the list in SP then creating a form.

There is an option to manage multiple list items with the form - see attached screenshot.

    Hi Hilary

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have selected the option as you suggested and it has added a repeating section but how does the user add additional items as there doesn't appear to be an add item option as there is in a repeating table.

Sorry if what I am asking is incredibly stupid but I am getting no where with trial and error (apart from lots of error).

    Thank you

No question is stupid - I haven't used SharePoint List forms much, so I'm having to walk through this too.

It looks like by default the repeating section doesn't have "Allow users to insert" enabled - right click your repeating section and under the properties you'll see something like the screenshot I've attached. Once you click the "allow" checkbox you can then click the checkbox that will display the "insert item" widget.

I went ahead and published my form after making these changes, and after I made sure I had all the required fields on my form (oops!) I was able to save multiple list items when creating a new item in the list.

However, I'm not seeing a way to actually edit multiple items (check a few items, select Edit only opens an individual item).

Apologies for hijacking this thread.   Can this be implemented on SharePoint 2007 using InfoPath 2010?  I cannot locate the option in the screenshot provided?

     Regards

    Hi

The answer to my previous question worked brilliantly but I am now trying to do something similar with a library rather than a list.

I have an InfoPath 2010 form submitting to a document library which has a number of fields promoted and used in a workflow. Within the form is a repeating table. I am finding that only the first entry in the repeating table is displaying in the promoted field so only those details are being used in the workflow.

It appears that the solution that works for a list does not exist (in manage data connections) for a library.

    Any ideas, please?

    Thanks

Mark - sorry, didn't see your post at the end of the thread - to my knowlege, you can't edit a SharePoint List form for ShP 2007 in InfoPath. Has to be ShP 2010.

Karen - this has to do with the limits of promoted properties on repeating data. By default, IP will promote the first entry. You can change that to "merge" - see attached screenshot.

I saw your post to someone else's question however I am using SharePoint 2010 w/InfoPath 2010 and I do not see Repeating Table in the controls section for the form I created from a SharePoint List. The only option i have in the Containers is Section. Any ideas?

If you are working with a list form you have the option of setting it to manage multiple items. Create a new SharePoint list form, use the URL for your list, and select the option to manage multiple items.

This impossibility to have (change to/from) a repeating section or repeating table in a list form

    •  for already existing list (if to create it from sharepoint by clicking on Customize Form button on ribbon)
    • or a list form created immediately without  Manage multiple list items with this form option

is funny... one should never create a lot in a list form before its completion.

You never know when you will need to recreate a list form from the scratch
