Using Negative Values in Drop List

I have a form used for scoring associate performance.  There are 16 questions, each with a corresponding drop list containing the values (or score) that can be assigned to the associate's performance as it relates to each question..  Currently all of the values placed in each drop list are positive values.  I have made a modification to our scoring process and now wish to use negative values in my drop lists as well.  However, I am getting an error when I attempt to add negative values to my drop down's values list indicating the specified value is not valid.  I have also tried creating a rule that forces the positive values in the drop list to negative values.  This works and my calculation of the total of all the list boxes is correct.  However, there is a dotted red line around the drop down where the negative value was selected.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to make this work?

    I am using InfoPath 2007.

     Thanks!

    Hello,

Could you tell us the datatype of the field the dropdown is bound to?  Is there any custom validation on it?

The field is bound to a SQL db table.  The data type is tinyint.  There is no customer validation associated with this field.

    Thanks!

It appears that tinyints can only take on values between 0 and 255, no negatives:

Any chance of changing the datatype of this field in the database?

Thanks Jimmy.  I hadn't taken that into consideration.  I appreciate the insight.
